Impressed by the sesame beancurd julienne! The beancurd was so thinly sliced, the fragrance of the sesame smell and the savoury sauce, as well as the dried shrimps, all of these went very well with the beancurd, not too salty, what a nice combi, yum!

Unlike the usual savoury porridge that I expected, the beauty porridge was something like sweet (but not too sweet) soya bean soup base with lily and water chestnut, the rice was almost not visible to eyes, quite a surprise dish eh!

The xlb was unlike the usual pork meat xlb, the shrimp with silky gourd filling was quite on point, natural sweetness from the shrimp and moist silky gourd, something different for a change!

The veg cold dish was quite decent, various veg mixed together with sesame oil and not too salty, feeling healthy eating this~

The roast duck was quite decent, quite tender, no gamey smell, just that find the sauce a little diluted, else it will be perfect…

The osmanthus steam sponge was a little too sticky and chewy to my likings, but taste wise, it’s pretty good, not too sweet and each mouthful was filled with osmanthus smell…

Overall, the taste of each dishes was quite well balanced, not too sweet/ salty, wouldn’t mind coming back again, it would be perfect if each dish’s portion could be a little bigger…

Every time I am in Nanjing, the capital city of Jiangsu province, I will go to a restaurant that offers Nanjing street food at reasonable prices - Nanjing Da Pai Dang. This chain of restaurant has many outlets and they offer exactly the same food, taste, decor, service, with the leading staff who wears ancient Chinese costume with a funny Mandarin hat and waitresses in ancient Chinese clothes.

Imagine my surprise when I heard they opened a branch in Singapore. And they have replicated the decor and uniforms, even down to the leading staff with the Mandarin hat.

Okay so the menu is very much reduced in terms of items compared with their cousins in Nanjing but the ubiquitous Salty Braised Duck, Smoked Duck, LionHead Meatball, Bean Curd in Brine, Pork Trotters in Dark Sauce, these are all available. And the taste did not disappoint.

I think I will come again whenever I miss Nanjing food or introduce this novelty to friends.

It is kind of handmade noodle put on sesame oil sauce.

If you are looking for some snack over the meal, go fo this which generous in the size and definitely chewy and tasty.

Beside the chicken was juicy, the broth given was vinegar. Giving the interesting flavour to the chicken.

The big meatballs come with a small pot of soup, which you could share among. The soup itself was tasty and wasn’t overwhelming on its taste.

For a cold dish you could go for this. Two lines of lotus root that can eat as the appetiser for the meal.

What special about this is that the glutinous rice is seasoned and soaked before being placed in a bowl together with sliced of belly porks, then put in steamer for 3 hours.

So both the rice and pork have fused together to create this aromatic dish that sticky but melt easily in your mouth.

Has always wanted to try this place and you definitely want to have more people in order to eat more things.

Since we enter phase 3 with 8 people gathering, I finally gotten the chance to invite more friends to join me here.

The broth was definitely an appetite to bring your meal here, sliced fish was very smooth.

As you can see the portion is about a quarter of a duck? Duck was smooth but the MVP was absolutely the sauce. I've got no idea why but somehow the sweet savoury sauce is just unbelievably good. Their signature for a good reason!

This one was an appetizer actually. It's hard to comprehend at first but the sweet and sour flavour profiles actually make sense. Smooth ckn meat w crispy exterior(there's basically no heat tbh not to worry) made for a extremely enjoyable bites. Highly recommended!!

So sinful and so good. It's pure oil inside, theres really no other liquid apart from the roast sauce. When you open a hole, u can see that what flows out is clear. The roast duck flavour hits you as u bite into the dumpling, and slowly subsides.

I hardly ever do this, but WE ORDERED A SECOND PORTION OF IT. very expensive(2bucks for a dumpling) without the eatigo discount, so it's a luxury only eatigo provides

PSA about 15% of menu items aren't avail, esp their famous meatball soup.

Quite a thick and well-spiced broth, but the beef was tough n dry. Unacceptable for a restaurant of this presumed standard. Hope this is a one-off

Sponge is a MASSIVE MISNOMER. It's essentially mochi, with a v fragrant but mild glaze. Would have been better if the glaze was sweeter, abit tasteless now, but im sure there are those who like it this way

Another dish that I loved. Dining mates didn't like lotus/the sauce but I loved almost everything about the dish. It's entirely sweet, but somehow doesn't feel like a dessert. The lotus were cooked to perfection for this dish, and the thick sauce was so gooey and comforting. Get this to share amongst 3 minimum, it's q filling due to the glutinous rice inside

Very normal zongzi, in fact the meat was quite tough. I have no doubt it could have been a stellar dish in the past, but wtv the case this wasn't impressive at all

Rant:
So apparently I booked for only 2pax, then 3 pax turned up and they told me the 50% discount will be reduced to 30%. Very surprised there's such thing, but when I went to check eatigo turns out if the reservation isn't more than 2 weeks in advance, there really is only 30% discount for 3 pax for the same timeslot that has a 50% discount for 2 pax. So they didn't set this SOP arbitrarily, nonetheless it left a really bitter taste in our mouths. So moral of story make sure your reservation details are correct

Wow. I absolutely dig this, the broth is so light yet so full of humble umami. Probably loads of MSG, but still delicious.

A little sour, a little spicy and a little sweet --- that's the unique taste profile you get with Nanjing Impressions' 王府泡椒鸡 (palace chicken with pickled chilli). The chicken is first roasted with salt and pepper. It is then placed in an elaborate earthenware urn and topped with a sauce with pickled chilli and the key ingredient in Huaiyang cuisine, chinkiang vinegar.

This was my favourite dish at Nanjing Impressions by a mile!
