When our local meepok blend with Japanese style, you could enjoy a new way of having it.
Mr Meepok has serving their Japanese style of meepok at the neighbourhood of West Coast area, in one of the coffee shop here.
The signature minced meat noodle has the usual ingredients like minced pork and braised mushrooms. They also added the onsen egg, meatballs and mock abalone slices to it.
The vinegar taste wasn’t that strong to me, but the onsen egg added a different taste to it.
Another bak chor mee with a modern twist helmed by young hawkerpreneurs in the scene, Mr Meepok. Although the daily noodle, which resembles a Japanese mazesoba, looked tempting, I decided to go for the signature minced meat noodle on a first visit.
At $4.80, the bowl of bak chor mee comes with minced pork, braised mushrooms, meatballs, mock abalone slices and a fish cake roll. While you might not get the traditional vinegar taste here, I thought the presence of an onsen egg was pretty interesting to add more silliness to the noodles. The only downside was the portion seemed to be slightly small for the price, compared to an usual bowl of bak chor mee.
This new stall helmed by a crew of young hawkers opened this week at Blk 727 Clementi West Street 2 S11 Kopitiam. I ordered their Signature Meepok but changed it to Mee Kia to test their cooking.
At $4.80 a pop, it comes with a sous vide egg, two meat balls, two slices of abalone, minced meat and braised mushrooms. The noodles could be more al dente, serving is very small. The chilli sauce was quite normal with just a hint of vinegar. You can also find a few pieces of pork lard. Be aware that they will ask for extra 30 cents for plastic packaging for takeaways.
My suggestion if you visit this stall is to ask for extra noodles, extra chilli and extra vinegar.
