Wanted a quick meal at the food hall of Funan and decided to grab some pasta from this stall.
The mushroom carbonara is on its most basic with just mushrooms, which you can add on more toppings if you want.
I find the taste a bit bland with the lack of strong parmesan taste.
With onsen egg and truffle oil. I customised until I sure like, but something was very wrong. You know how truffle oil can smell a bit like petrol? Mine had an intense petrol taste.
Large chunks of white mushroom in a carbonara sauce. I chose Penne pasta because I wanted something easier to eat with a spoon as the box really makes it hard to eat Spagetti or Linguini which a better paired with a carbonara sauce. However I must say that the pasta was al dente - it was not overly cooked and had a nice chewy bite but the sauce was a little too salty for me.
Will recommend that if you are trying to control your salt intake to tell them to make it less salty.
The sauce was ample - in fact I didn’t finish the sauce and there was still lots of it in the container when I finished.
I will hope to try the Beef Bolognaise sauce next time, because that’s what I cook most of the time.
($6.20) I choose Farfalle (choice of pasta) and Chorizo (spicy hotdog) (choice of side dish) before making purchase. But the serving was quite not that big as I managed to eat finish. I really like their tomato sauce to be not waterish or thick texture.
Food 🍝: 7/10
Truly a hidden gem snuck right at the basement of Funan! Following the trend of build-your-own pasta bowls, this place offers pastas from $5.50 and allows you to choose from a variety of pastas and toppings too!
Had the Carbonara ($7.90) tossed with the classic Spaghetti pasta as recommended on the menu. The sauce was on the thicker side and was mixed with fatty guanciale (pork cheek), egg, parmesan and black pepper. Each bite was really creamy and eggy with the black pepper greatly enhancing the taste of the pasta. Portion was just right for a was super hungry me during lunch time! A little note though, would have preferred if the guanciale was replaced with bacon for a little bit of that protein. Will definitely come and try their other pastas though!
A new handmade pasta stall in Funan, @littleribbonspastaco offers a range of pasta classics at modest prices. How does it compare to other similar pasta stalls popping up all over Singapore?
The sauce for this pasta, though tangy and refreshing, was still one dimensional and tasted just like canned tomato paste without salt.
That said, the farfalle was fun to play with and the additional chicken breast was indeed very tender. I hope the dish fulfils it's potential soon!
