Late Night Hunger
Arguably there are three things to look for when you want authentic Malaysian styled Ban Mian.
1) The Mee Hoon Kueh must be hand torn and not cut from a rolled pieces of dough with cookie cutter.
2) The vegetable used must be Sayur Manis.
3) The condiment must be a chilli sauce and not cut red chilli in soya sauce.
This outlet by the original 2016 Michelin Star Ban Mian China Whampoa Handmade Noodles hits all the above. It is located at Lor 12 Geylang Road. Their standard portions go from $5.50 and you may choose to add ikan bilis, prawns, fish maw, etc. There is even an abalone version.
The mee hoon kueh is chewy and the clear soup has a umami taste that is is similar to the type of pork bone soup with yellow soya beans that you get from Yong Tau Fu. The dry version is even more flavourful with the added black soya sauce that tastes a little sweet.
But the most remarkable is their three types of chilli sauce: The green lime chilli sauce, the chilli sauce with pineapple and the standard chilli sauce. They are all great with the ban mian, whether you order dry or soup. The green lime chilli could do with a little more tanginess and less sweet. The pineapple chilli sauce seem to be the medium type but still a little sweet for more. But the standard chilli sauce is a killer. For those who can take spice in the spades go for it. Amateurs be warned. Stay away!
I can see how the original stall got their Michelin Star but now itās more franchised. Will go to their main branch in Whampoa again to reconfirm my theory of eating Michelin Star food only at the branch that got the Star. So far it has proven to be true for Putien and Liao Fan Hawker Chan.
Opened in July, this no-frills congee hotpot spot is perfect for a relaxed dinner. The āsoupā is earthy and comforting, using the porridge liquids that gets tastier as you continue cooking.
The ingredients were all tasty and affordable as well. Loved the clams, though slightly small, they were fresh and sweet. Best part about the meal was the super tasty homemade chili soy sauce they serve, packed with coriander, spring onions, ginger, garlic and more herbs and spices. Total damage for two: $56. Will be back!
Highly raved dish at Enjoy Eating House and Bar, I was curious to find out how tasty it was although I am usually not a fan of pig trotters.
Perhaps when Chef Joel inherited his late grandmaās secret recipe, he inherited the way to cook up a homely taste in his dishes as well, for thatās what I tasted exactly in this dish. Albeit a dish with few ingredients, the heartwarming feeling was clearly illustrated from the painstaking cooking process of the tender braised pig leg. Still slightly animalic to me personally, but balanced by the smoky wok hei as the pig leg was wok-fried with vermicelli thatās tossed in a rich essence of the broth. Served with kai lan and shiitake mushrooms. Possibly a dish that would evoke much memories.
Enjoy eating house and bar is a #burpplebeyond partner where you can enjoy 1-for-1 mains!
Then you have to try this one.
Large intestines, cleaned, then deep fried with dried chillies, Szechuan peppers, sesame seeds and sliced celery. The batter theyāve achieved for this dish is HIGHLY SATIS-FRYING! Theyāve really thought through this crispy+chewy combination and it just keeps you reaching for more.
Side note: the whacky direct translated names of dishes in their menu will definitely be your dinner time entertainment.

Back again for their China-Chinese food! Skewers were as good but unfortunately, kinda felt that there were more misses than hits this time round. Had similar dishes as the first visit but the mala we had wasnāt as fragrant and well fried, while the fried intestines could be better cleaned and seasoned. Would say that the skewers would be a much safer bet!
The wokhei be like a smoky perfume and the beehoon wore it pretty well!

Even though it might be scorching hot outside and you will be sweating buckets from the meal, it does not stop you from ordering this bowl of mee sua to warm the soul. You can customize your order to have it with pig organs (liver, kidney) and/or pork slices depending on your dietary preferences. The black chicken herbal soup is especially āgaoā on this day which heightened the feel good factor and I look forward to the next visit to Seng Kee.

Back at Ramen Keisuke Lobster King @ Clarke Quay last Friday!! (altho not a big fan of ramen but this place will somehow keeps me coming back for more) š Went back to dig photos of my first visit and I'm glad that I actually backed up some of my previous shots since the recent factory reset of my phone š
.
.
Needless to say, their main selling point would be the lobster broth š¤¤ Also, the free flow hard-boiled eggs and well seasoned beansprouts!! šÆ š For the lobster broth ramen, you can choose how you like your noodles and broth to be!! I definitely like mine rich soup and less oil, the broth turns out to be indeed rich and savoury š You can also add on flavoured egg(+$2) and seaweed(+$1) to complete your ramen!! šš»
The next time I'm here, I might order their stir fried mushroom with garlic and butter, it seems to appear on every other table beside us āŗļø .
.
Expected damage: From $14.90++
Ambience: 3/5, service tend to be quite slow
Food Rating: 8/10
Something unusual about this stall is that their order counter is at the side, not the front of the stall.
Queue formed easily but waiting time is short. It is completely a wet version with just a few prawns plus sotong from $4 onwards.
first introduced to this dish at this place by the noob.

the chicken was quite soft. the gravy was savoury yet not overpowering till the point of jelak-ness. the cheese naan is another level compared to the usual naan kosong. i find the normal naan too one dimensional. so this option suits me. combine both the cheese naan and butter chicken gravy together. shiok.

$12 for these two items.

Decided to head out of town to escape the NDP crowd and ended at a local favorite, Punggol Nasi Lemak. Queues were long as usual, snaking out of the coffee shop.
