A young popular brand across the border, Ah Mah Homemade Cake's first outlet opened in Malaysia this April but has since quickly expanded to 14 across the country! You can find them too in Bukit Panjang Plaza starting this Friday, with two flavours to choose from, Original and Cheese. Best part about these freshly baked fluffy cakes - they don’t contain anything else other than milk, flour, sugar and locally produced eggs (they use 42 in a tray!). No butter and no additives also means it's healthier. The original is a teeny bit sweeter than I would have liked and I preferred the cheese castella out of the two. It was especially good when eaten hot just right out of the oven, with that melty double layered cheddar cheese between the wobbly sponge and crunchy parmesan bits sprinkled on top! These cakes can be kept up to 3 days chilled and mine still held up nice and fluffy after a day. Ah Mah’s working on new flavours to launch, keep an eye for their Chicken Floss flavour that will be out in end August.

Their second SG outlet will open their doors next Thursday (20 July) in Vivo City #B2-K7.

Super rich and creamy, a mouth of this literally felt like a spoonful of Nutella out of the jar! It was not bad but a little too sweet for my liking. You can get it at $5 if you top up on your set meal.

Back to Nesuto again because although the prices are on the higher end, they've some of the loveliest entremets and cakes I've had in a long time! Tried the Foret Noire this round that's made up of morello cherry compote, madagascar vanilla kirsch namelaka, manjari 64% supreme on top of a chocolate marquise sponge. The decadent layers of chocolate were thoughtfully and delicately balanced out with the sweet tangy cherry compote, but the best part of all that we absolutely loved, was the hidden surprise of griottines well steeped in liquor!

Helmed by the same team behind KOKI Tamagoyaki that serves the few best choux puffs around, Nesuto is a new patisserie that offers a whole range of some of the loveliest cakes and quality tea pairings (from @antea.social) I've had in awhile. It was so tough to pick a favorite!

This here is Suzette - Vanilla Bavaroise, Ivoire 35% Grande Marnier Cremeux and Orange Caramel sitting on a Santiago Tart base. It had a fun play of textures with well balanced sweetness and lovely citrusy notes. We were recommended the Dong Ding Oolong from Taiwan as a pairing and the classic tea was mellow, light yet sweet.

A huge thank you to @dear.nesuto for the warm hospitality and Joann @theduckeats for the kind invite! 🙆🏻

Au Four Au Moulin is a French Bakery Supplier that specializes in the distribution of a wide range of quality bakes to various cafes, restaurants and hotels. Think cakes, dessert pies, gourmet pastries, artisan spreads and even French ice cream! Now with their new online shop www.shop.afnam.sg , you can get some delivered right to your doorstep too! This Galaxy White Rainbow Cake (1.5kg) surprised me with its layers of soft vibrantly colored rainbow sponges, stacked together generously with smooth cream cheese (which I love)! You'll like this especially if you often find yourself scraping all those whipped cream off cakes because you can wipe this clean! 🙈

With Santa coming round the corner, all the Christmas themed desserts are starting to make their appearance woop! 🎅🏻🎊 Montana's gorgeously decorated version has layers of black chocolate sponge layered with cherry sauce made with cherry brandy liquer, covered in cherry buttercream, dark chocolate glaze and coconut shavings all around.

I liked that the liqueur was not overpowering but subtle with a lingering cherry fragrance, though it was denser and sweeter than I would have liked. That said, I really appreciate that Ying and the Montana team is always super open to feedback! Ying very kindly let us have a slice of the improved cake they were working on, with its chocolate sponge thoroughly soaked in cherry brandy liqueur. I've got to say that that's a nice touch, helping to reduce the overall sweetness while enhancing the flavours! That's the version you'll find there from now.

This Christmassy dessert is served in Montana daily but recommended a day preorder (6334 3137). It's also available in 1.5kg for $95 - just drop an email to info@montana.com.sg 3 days in advance!

One of the star highlights of Montana's revamped menu is definitely their new desserts range - Freak Cakes (5 different flavours to choose from)!

Although it 100% looks like it would be spoonfuls of sugar down our tummies, we were pleasantly surprised that it wasn't cloyingly sweet but more bittersweet. This freak cake here has a light matcha sponge paired with black sesame frosting, covered in smooth matcha buttercream and ended off with a pour of thick fragrant black sesame glaze. We really enjoyed the pairing of the flavours which reminded me a lot of their Black Velvet Waffle with Green Tea Ice Cream, also one of their hot favorite dessert. Though pricey, the portion's good to share with a few, thus it works out quite well. I'll surely be back to try the Caramel Cookie Butter! Other flavours are Red Velvet, Smoky Nutella and Coffee Kaya Coconut.

Finally got down to try this place in Bukit Timah Plaza. Love the concept that the 2 warm and friendly owners have adopted - helping customers experience cafehopping all within 'one box'! How? Their menu changes every fortnightly with a whole new range of desserts they have sourced from various cafes across Singapore. You don't have to go all the way to the actual cafes anymore!

I got hold of this elegant looking Rosewater Cheesecake from Twenty Grammes, which is more known for its waffles. A sweet smelling and tasting floral fragrance dominates the tastebuds but I'm glad that at the back of it, you can still savour the creamy cheesecake flavours. I still love my original cheesecakes most but this is an interesting option worth a try!

#FestivalForGood is happening TODAY and it's Singapore's first ever festival put together to celebrate and raise awareness of social enterprises! 🎈Head down to Timbre+ to join in the fun with the exciting line up, all while doing good! Apart from dropping by stalls at the pop-up market, participate in unique fringe events like a crash course on how to juggle to a tote bag design workshop. Most importantly, get a close look and gain a first hand experience of what some of our inspiring local social enterprises do, such as through the Visual Impairment Exercise by Society Staples and the Disability Wellness Experience by AbleThrive.

Together with this joyous occasion, Festival for Good has partnered with 8 F&B partners to launch #DineForGood for the whole month of August! Professor Brawn Cafe is one of these 8. Professor Brawn is not the owner, but the face of the cafe representing kindness, strength and intelligence. Both him and The Animal Project (TAP), are inspired and created by their founder, Roland's, autistic son. Roland left the corporate world with the determination to start this social enterprise and has not looked back since. He doesn't just push for serving affordable quality western grub, his priority is to promote inclusivity and acceptance of the special needs community, by providing employment & social integration opportunities. Holistic considerations and adjustments have been made to the jobs to better support his employees in performing and showcasing their abilities.

Prepared to be spoilt for choice here as you flip through the menu. Two must gets for me are the substantial crunchy calamari ($7.90) and the super tender Savoury BBQ Pork Ribs ($18.90). End off your meal later with a selection of home made cakes like this Banana Walnut Cake.

Your support to these social enterprises goes a long way and means a lot to them. Be #partofthegood simply by dining in!🍴 In the month of August at Professor Brawn, receive a complimentary serving of ice cream with purchase of any mains! Download the dining coupons, tickets to workshops and find more details of the festival at www.festivalforgood.sg!

A huge thank you to Roland from @professorbrawn, Saddiqi from raiSE for the warm hospitality and @burpple for the kind invite! 🙆🏻

For me, the first step to a good chocolate cake is having more chocolate than cake (Hoho, such a sinful thought but since you're already eating it, why not go all out and enjoy yourself right?) ! Chocolate Origin's layers of fluffy chocolate sponge with smooth, luscious and rich chocolate ganache seals the deal for me, it was one of the better chocolate cakes I've had in a while. While being super chocolatey, it's also not too overwhelmingly sweet. Yay and thank you to Burpple for the cakes and birthday celebrations! 💃🏻

Just based on its appearance, you wouldn't have guessed that this plain ol' chocolate looking cake uses yoghurt as one of its ingredients. The sponge was chocolatey, light and delightfully moist, but I wasn't really a fan of the slight hints of sourness that kept bugging me from start to end. A change in name might help to better represent it!
