* This place has closed :( Please try somewhere else. * The “castella” cakes from Ah Mah Homemade Cake are inspired by the popular egg sponge cakes from Tamsui, Taiwan, and infused with a local twist. Freshly baked for 80 minutes every day, each batch is made purely with milk, eggs, and quality flour. There is no added water, preservative and colouring. A healthier choice, the soft, fluffy and melt-in-your-mouth texture of the castella cakes is bound to wow! Firstly launched in Restoran Poh Yap, Kota Kemuning, Malaysia, on 7 April 2017, the concept has soared in popularity within the span of two months, and has opened 14 outlets across the country. With an average queue time of around 45 to 60 minutes, the brand has sold over 100,000 boxes of its delicious cakes in Malaysia to date. Now, it is here in Singapore!

🎅🏻🤶🏻 Just for Christmas, @iluvahmahsg had a 1 for 1 promotion at all its outlet (FREE original castella with ANY cake purchase). Glad to have brave the 1 hour queue and got a freshly baked batch of matcha and original 💛💚. Though the matcha flavour was mild and barely detectable (which is a disappointment for hardcore matchaholics like me), I still adore the soft and fluffy texture of the castella cake that’s sufficiently moist and pillowy. The cotton-like spongy texture makes it a perfect afternoon treat, a great pairing with a cup of hot tea or coffee 🍵☕️. Best eaten warm when it’s freshly baked out of the oven but I had mine chilled and I still love it. In fact, I prefer having the green tea castella chilled rather than warm! As for the original cake, I personally feel it tasts better when warm, with a soft and spongy texture that is fragrant and delightful, like a traditional steam egg cake. Having tried all flavours, my personal favourite is cheese, with a thick layer of gooey, melted cheese sandwiched within the soft, spongy original cake .

They have a newly opened small stall at Bedok Mall Basement 2. Tried their cheese version and I liked the heavy egg taste. I prefer this to Le Castella Cake. Cheese version cost $11 while the plain one is $8. They also have chocolate version at $13.

The texture of the sponge cake is more dense (not as fluffy) and the height of the cake is not as high as LE Castella. However, the cheese flavor one tastes nicer than LE Castella. Cheese (S$11) and Original (S$8).

Short queue so we bought this. We got the last 3 boxes ($8 each) & the guy behind us was a bit sian he had to wait 25 mins for his.

Honestly... Don't know what the fuss is about. Everyone had the "Huh... That's it?" expression on their faces after the first bite. It's very very ordinary, & I'm quite sure I won't buy this again. Shrugs.

Sorry, Ah Mah. Don't really love your egg sponge cake. Not terrible, but it doesn't wow me either.

Went to the Westgate branch and queued up 25 mins for this. It’s an open concept takeaway kiosk where you can see the process of the homemade traditional egg sponge cakes being baked and sliced when you queue up. Ordered the cheese flavor cake and felt it taste even better refrigerated. So light and fluffy!

Can't get over how much this looks like siobak HAHA. Not sure what the hype is; the impressive factor is definitely its fluffiness, though you can get that in any chiffon cake (but I think this was fluffier!). Also wished that the cheese flavour was more pronounced.
