Cheap AND Good
Might not the most #instagramworthy plate of food but definitely one of my go-to #comfortfood.

Flattened, charred bee hoon that's slightly crisp on the outside, moist and flavorful inside. Hidden beneath are slices of lean pork, prawns, vegetables and egg.

PS: I like this eatery better than the other famous eatery that's located a stone's throw away! (hint: also bee hoon but different style. *coughs*)
Heating them for a couple of seconds, the filling was very much like molten lava, oozing from the interior as you peel the warm soft bun apart. Plain on the outside but lots of bittersweet gooey goodness on the inside, the rich chocolate stuffed buns were also not overly sweet.

Thanks to Burpple's recommendation, Mongkok Dim Sum is now one of my favorite places to indulge in abundance of dim sum without worrying burning a hole in my pocket. We had Shredded Mango with Shrimp, Spinach Dumpling, Mongkok Pork Dumpling, House Special Prawn Dumpling, 3 Yolk Crab Claypot Porridge ($9), Steamed Rice Roll with Char Siew, and 3 Color Milk Tea ($3.20). The dim sum items we had are priced at $4 only! 😄
Most epic chye peng ever. This place offers whole fishes like non other. Be here by 12pm if you like to have the best ingredients. Incredibly affordable.
If you are craving for a warm bowl of porridge but you are picky on the sides... Just head on down to iSteamboat, you don't have to crack your brain on what pairs well with your humble bowl of porridge. ISteamboat has over 24 home cooked dishes to eat with your Teochew porridge. What a great way to pamper yourself. Oh did I mentioned that it's all healthy? Cooked with less oil (vegetable oil) ... It's a MUST HAVE !!!! Isteamboat is located at Marina square at #04-102A, Singapore 039594
If you ever find yourself in Vivocity and are craving for authentic, affordable no-frills Japanese udon or grilled meat donburis, I urge you to make your way to Washoku Goen in Food Republic. The substantial serving of beef was imbued with the smokiness imparted by fire and unctuous with meaty flavour, deftly handled by the burly, heavily tattooed headband wearing Japanese cook behind the grill station. You can't see it buried beneath the beef mountain, but the rice is excellent Japanese short grain. Pay $1 extra to get a runny egg and some tasty kelp soup, then pile on the free spring onion and tempura batter.
A combination of what I love the most. Orh nee in tart form! The orh nee is not overly sweet and definitely yammy enough for me. The tart is buttery and crunchy! This two makes such a good combination. This tart is ready at 12pm and gets sold out by the time lunchtime is over. It is only $1 each!
Vietnamese bread which comes with a choice of grilled pork, ham or funnily, satay. The ones I usually had along the streets of Vietnam were ham ones. This grilled pork baguette is lightly toasted with a crisp exterior and soft inside, and the sandwich is later given a healthy dose of chopped peanuts.
They sell a wide variety of fare that you see in Vietnam, from banh mi to pho to bun thit niuong. All their dishes range only from $3 to $7. I wouldn't say the food here is fantastic but is better and cheaper than some of the places out there.
A go-to place for fresh homemade kuehs! The kueh is a bit thick for me because I prefer the sweet burst in the centre more. Thanks @afen14 for the recommendation!
Priced at $6.90 for students (excluding gst and service charge), this dish is definitely worth the money for most considering it's from an authentic Japanese restaurant. But perhaps the portion could have been bigger (at least for me).
Confit of duck leg from France served with mash potato, braised savoy cabbage and au jus.
Pretty fancy stuff for a coffee shop and well worth the price paid. The mash potato here is sooooo good! I liked the duck confit a lot! Although some have commented that they find it a little dry, but mine was ok, or maybe I like it that way 😝 #LaterGram from lunch with my MIA Friday lunch buddy @poksie.
