PSA The dried one has its sauce and noodles separated, the sauce is cooked down further. The premium one has seafood stir fried into it.
Food:
The sauce is the best I've had before. There's this porky umami so the sauce has impact, not just one dimensional sweetness. Their noodles are not top tier, ok only
Overall still definitely worth a try. Kimchi was well spiced and quite unique, not really my thing though
Jajangmyeon was delish!! Not jelak at all and portion was rather generous
However, wouldn't come back for the jjamppong. Felt it was bland and I could only taste the spice that's it. There is no flavour to it :(
Jjampong and Jja Jang Myeon are some good choices Whenever i have cravings for some korean food. I truly understand how the koreans love their noodles and indeed it does not disappoint! Highly recommend this place for noodle lovers! The sauce and broth here is really delish and makes me wanna visit again soon!!!๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป
damn hugee & crispy & legit stuffed w/ kimchi & that spicy sauceee they gave wow perfect
Set 2 consists of 2 choices of either jjajangmyeon/jjamppong or their rice alternatives, fried dumplings, and a plate of spicy fried chicken cubes.
The spicy fried chicken cubes were served before the noodles, which could seem odd as youโd think you would want to eat the chicken dish with your staple. However, the spicy fried chicken cubes were so good that I could not help but kept munching on them while I was waiting for the noodles. The chicken cubes were juicy and crispy, and fortunately, not too oily. The batter had a good crunch that was not too thick either, and the sauce was that of a spicy flavour with a hint of sweetness in a slightly stick consistency. I was torn between having to choose between their sweet and sour pork (Set 1), but I am glad to have tried this!

Crispy fried dumplings that were stuffed with a decent amount of meat made for a satisfying appetiser as we waited for our noodles! It went very well with the vinegar at the side.

Unlike the chewy and qq noodles in their jjajangmyeon, the noodles in the jjamppong were slightly softer. While it was still silky smooth, I believe that the fact that the noodles were soaked in the soup made the noodles a tad soggy, so it was unfortunate that I did not enjoy the noodles in this bowl as much. However, I was still mindblown by how light yet flavourful the spicy seafood soup was. It tended to have a slight prawn broth, umami flavour to it which I enjoyed, and I particularly like how there was a slight spicy kick that was not too overwhelming. If youโre not a fan of noodles, they also have an option for you to have the spicy seafood soup with broth. I would like to believe that it would be equally enjoyable, especially with the pretty decent amount of vegetables and seafood in the bowl!

Hwang Sil markets themselves as a Korean Chinese Restaurant serving authentic Korean fare. It is housed in a quiet corner of Air View Building along Maxwell Road, but draws a good amount of customers โ seemingly regulars who know the place pretty well, as well as Koreans. I have been meaning to try this place, so when I decided not to head there on a weekend night, I was pretty disappointed to be turned away as there were no seats available, and that there was actually a possibility to make a reservation (I do believe that it is via phone, their webpages are not that active). I left my number, and I was pleasantly surprised to hear back from them after about 15 minutes! However, I do advice not to take that risk, and just call and reserve beforehand. Stepping into the restaurant, I was welcomed by a cosy interior which was decked with wooden furniture. I felt like I was eating in someoneโs home instead of a restaurant, but still being treated with impeccably warm service. I believe they have 2-3 private rooms for small groups to gather as well, but where I was seated was still pleasant enough for a nice, homely vibe. Service staff were polite and efficient, but I do think that the food โ especially the noodles, takes a bit of time to be served, so be mentally prepared!

I absolutely loved the texture of noodles in this jjajangmyeon. The noodles were both chewy and bouncy enough, yet still soft to the bite at the same time. I personally do not enjoy overtly bouncy noodles, nor soft noodles that feel soggy. However, Hwang Silโs jjajangmyeon was a perfect balance of QQ and delicate. Letโs not forget that the noodle texture itself was silky smooth, I had to slurp every bite up. The onion bits in this jjajangmyeon were cut slightly bigger instead of diced bits, but I appreciated that as I could avoid the bigger pieces to avoid myself from being too bloated. On top of that, the amount of onions were just nice, and not an overkill, so it gave a good fragrance without overwhelming the flavour. The sweetness and savouriness of this jjajangmyeon was well balanced, so even til the end, I did not get sick of the flavour. I am definitely returning back to Hwang Sil for their food!

The star of the night was the jajangmyeon. Tbh I think I would order both jajangmyeon during my next visit. After giving it a good mix, eveyone was just busy slurping the noodles.
To be fair, the jjamppong wasnโt all that bad. It came with an assortment of seafood such as mussels, prawns and squid. The broth was slightly spicy and even tho the noodles used was prob the same as the jajangmyeon, I didnโt quite enjoy it.
We ordered the set A which comprises the following:
- 5 dumpling
- tangsuyuk
- 2 noodles/ rice
The tangsuyuk was surprising yummy. Even though it was deep fried, it wasnโt oily at all. The sauce that came with it was warm as well. Pork was tender and truly enjoyable.
Dumpling were average, like what you normally get at Korean restaurants.
Recommended to make reservations as the space is rather small.
Yumsssssss one of the nicest in Sg! Noodles are so chewy and alot of bite!
The jajangmyeon is mastered with the springy ramen with caramelised onions, and bits of minced pork. Served together with the endless fried chicken and pork (tangsuyuk), and finished with sweet fruity soju - I love the grape flavour!
The jamppong was abit too spicy for me tho! We left v v v full
A rather authentic Korean store since customers were mostly Koreans but still a disappointing experience compared to the food at Paikโs in Korea ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ Jjajangmyun was decent but the jjampong was a no go
Letting BF try Korean chinese food since we did not get to eat in Korea..๐ฌ
jjajangmyeon here is good๐๐ป Not too sweet, and the onion and pork were not diced into too small pieces. I usually feel a bit gelat from jjajangmyeon, but not this๐
A hidden gem along Maxwell Road. This Korean-Chinese restaurant serves a delicious bowl of Jajangmyeon, as good as those in Korea. ๐๐ป๐๐ป
