Fatty Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee serves a good plate of hokkien mee.
I like that it is on the moist side and you can taste the savoury prawn stock in every mouthful. The chilli however is definitely the star as it packs a nice fiery punch.
This Hokkien mee is the more soupy kind, rather than the more fried, dry kind. I added all the chilli provided inside and it made it even better; very flavourful and yet packing a good punch. I’d say this is one of the better ones I’ve tried, but I still love chomp chomp’s most, and Yi Ji Hokkien Mee at Kovan (near Punggol nasi lemak) for their crazy chilli. 👅
Apparently this is one of the branded stalls at Ci Yuan. It had that unidentified taste I really frown at my noodles, like it's overcooked. This stall falls into a category I have - semi-popular brands serving mass-market but unspectacular food.
Somehow it’s not as good as I had it when it first opened. Maybe I was late and it’s a leftover mee. Nonetheless it’s still tasty and the sambal chilli is still super hot and smelt of dried prawns. This is the very wet type of Hokkien mee which means if you take it home the flavour will be absorbed well into the mee.
Yummy fried hokkien mee found near my place. The noodles are well fried; with a slightly smokey taste. The mix of yellow and vermicelli noodles is refreshing as well. But the star of the show is the fiery chilli, definitely one for the spice lovers.

Fried Hokkien Prawn Noodle - $5
·
As usual I will order it without prawn. I must say it comes with a lot ingredients for a plate of $5. However the dish lacks the Wok Hei, feels like lacking something. I noticed they cooked the noodles first and set aside, throw them in the wok to cook again to specific orders, and didn’t used any wooden cover to 焖 the noodles, which I think is the reason why it fails my taste test. The chilli provided is far too spicy and it will take away flavours from the already disappointing dish, best not to add chilli. Should try out some other stores in that hawker centre instead
