Australian lobster going at half price. Only $140. The head and tail were used for soup, with $20 add-on. With Burpple Beyond, I ordered a Salmon Sashimi and was given another free, each has six pieces. Both were fresh. Enjoyed the meal.
Use Burpple Beyond 25% discount for lunch Omakase. Paid $80.80 after discount. Food is in very small portion, dishes also normal. The soup is most disappointing. Suggest go Jidai at Boat Quay area for more tasty dishes.
Catching the tail of tuna season, Douraku Sushi presented us with a comforting bowl of Medama Nimono ($18). Not for the faint-hearted, in regards to the visuals, as the soup featured an entire slow-braised bluefin tuna eye. However, the sizeable chunk which was surrounded by fat and muscles added a great touch of decadence to the slurpy dashi-ginger broth.
Indulging in the tuna season was also us having the ‘Nodo’ Nimono ($40), a hunky Slow-Braised Bluefin Tuna’s Jowl. So meaty and succulent, the jowl or to be more exact the throat, was well-marinated and simply delicious. The flavourful cut had a good bit of fat lined around so expect real tender bites but it didn’t feel too unctuous and on a whole, the texture was surprisingly similar to braised pork in my opinion. The lip-smacking savoury sauce paired really well with the steaming bowl of white rice as well.
Available only till end of year.
Going out on a bang for the last Burpple Eatup of the year, Douraku Sushi delivered quite the lineup for us. Starting strong, we had the Pitan Tofu ($10) - a chilled silky egg tofu topped with tender snow crab mix, century egg jelly, century egg dressing, and tobiko. With the usual pungent taste balanced out nicely with the sweetness of the snow crab mix, the century egg dressing was creamy and umami.
The highlight of the meal was truly the stunning Premium Platter ($168) with 3 kinds of fish (Mekajiki, Salmon, and Akami), Oysters, Botan Ebi, Hokkaido Scallops, creamy Seasonal Sea Urchin and Ikura. Brilliant and fresh, the array of seafood was really good. The cuts were of the perfect thickness and were so sweet tasting. A special shoutout needed for the ikura which were nicely marinated and so flavourful.
