We were finding desserts around the area, and chanced upon Chowzan desserts, which serves up traditional Chinese desserts in a homely shop. We craving some durians desserts and got their Fried Durian Ball ($13.90) and Double D24 Boost (12.90).

The Durian Balls had a crispy exterior and gooey centre filled with durian cream. Unfortunately, the durian cream was not as fragrant as expected. Perhaps it is because it is not the durian season, hence it does not have the powerful oomph factor I was looking for.

The Double D24 Boost's durian flavour was also lackluster, but the coconut cream was very rich! It was a good accompaniment to the durian cream.

Perhaps we shouldn't have ordered the durian desserts when it's not the season πŸ˜‚ I saw many people eating their white Chendol instead and perhaps I will try that next time!

One of my favourite chinese dessert stall place is @chowzandessert ! This brand is now only located at lavender area!

(The paya lebar outlet is now under another name and doesnt have the white cendol without any toppings anymore!)

Hehe so when i visited the lavender outlet, i knew without thinking what my order would be - white cendol with no toppings! (Hehe the one in my cover photo with redbeans and corn were ordered by my family).

Must come at least once! You will fall in love with their unique white chendol dessert!

The portion of the desserts we ordered were pretty generous. They offered a varieties of hot and dessert. The desert we ordered were delicious and it was not too sweet. The mango sago came with chunks of mango and the base was thick and creamy. Price is also pretty reasonable.

We finally found another Chinese dessert place in Bugis - Chow Zan Dessert! This is a cosy Chinese dessert eatery near Tipo and it serves traditional Chinese desserts, as well as versions with pretty innovative takes on them too (the white chendol on a few of their desserts is a favourite). We went on a Monday evening and were pleasantly surprised to find that there were not many customers, hence it was a pretty nice environment to chat over a sweet treat.

We tried the durian sago, which is basically a bowl of durian paste topped with actual durian flesh and sago! The durian paste was certainly creamy and we liked that it was served really cold, although we felt that it had a slightly artificial taste (though this is much better than that served with the D24 durian mcflurry). While the durian flesh looked dull yellow and did not seem fresh at first glance, it was surprisingly good and it packed a concentrated punch of durian flavour!

Given that there was some actual durian added to the dish, we felt that $7.20++ was a fairly reasonable price for the dish. Nonetheless, the dishes at this stall are generally slightly more expensive than what you can find at other similar dessert stalls.

White Chendol (S$4.50)

Not sure why but the Gula Melaka syrup looked more yellowish then brown.
Not quite taken with white colored jelly strips which freeze hard easily. Kind reminded one of factory made Chendol green strips plus no Pandan flavour.

The replacement of green jelly with coconut white jelly in the chendol was a refreshing change! The durian is abit too sweet and tastes very slightly artificial (to me as an avid real durian lover) so I would skip it next time. Otherwise really enjoyed this dessert, thought it was a great take on chendol!
