I’ve been missing fish and chips with salt and vinegar and this hit the spot! Eaten hot, the fish was crispy on the outside and soft (but not mushy) on the inside. The chips were also covered with batter and tasted great. I was also pleasantly surprised with how much fish there was - definitely more fish than chips!
Get more vinegar if you can; it adds flavour and helps to cut down on the greasiness.
Walked past this quite a few times and decided to give it a go today - it did not disappoint! Bought this set together with a drink (lemonade) at a promotional price of $6.90, and everything was fried on the spot. It was fresh, the fish was succulent, and the fries were really interesting! They were more like rectangular potato pieces fried in the same fish batter, which made it hard to differentiate whether it was a fish or a chip - but it still tasted good! Would definitely recommend this to anyone who would love himself a good BBF :)
P.S. ask for some vinegar!
Airy crispy batter, some of the chips were enveloped with the batter giving more crisp. Probably need more lemon, and needs a lot of tartare or it felt overwhelmingly greasy 3.75/5
Every time I enter Plaza Singapura from the B2 entrance, I am welcomed by the smell of the freshly-fried bite from CHIPPY. And their signature product which is the British Battered Fish (S$6.40 for Regular) has always been a tempting snack to have, because even their fries are coated with batter before fried to that golden crisp that could not go wrong. If this is too oily for you, consider changing the sides to a Cold Poached Broccoli or Mashed & Roast Onion Sauce at no extra charge!
Moreover, with a top-up of S$0.90, I actually got a larger serving of fish, and it’s so big that their classic cylindrical box is unable to contain everything. That explains why it comes with such a big rectangular takeaway box instead.
Vinegar is also available on request, but do take not that it will only be sprayed over using a spray bottle. Confirm not enough vinegar for this meal.
Don’t forget to drink more water after the meal. They go really easy with the salt.
Finally succumbed to my fish and chips craving last weekend. And it was worth it!! Chippy at PS basement. Beer battered fish and chips small size with fries on the side ($5.50). Top up $0.90 for 2 tubs of cheese sauce!!
Fish was crispy and had a thin layer of batter. The fish itself had a pretty good texture. Not sure I taste the beer batter but it was great with cheese sauce!! Yay. Don’t bother getting the fries. Fat and dense and not crispy. Boo.
Plaza Sing branch: Long-time British-inspired snack takeaway joint here in SG, i'm sure most of us have seen/tried it 😃 Brings back good memories of younger days.
Rating: 6.5/10
Will i return/recommend: Yes/No
Pros: Comfort food! Polite staffs. Fav dishes: Bangers & Mash, fried Mars bar
Cons: Take-away concept, no seating/table. Don't waste your calories on mac n' cheese. It was nasty. Brocolli was not evenly heated, some pieces were cold (fridge) and tasteless.
Price: S$9.90 total, plus a lemonade
