Probably my most elusive food. Been so many years. I've visited twice previously with no success. This time we came early on a weekday and it was fast. Serving chye por on the side is their quirk. The carrot cake itself comes in slices, each one slightly crispy and inside was fluffy. It's refined, but not the very best I've eaten.
The carrot cake was slightly crispy outside but soft inside, served with chey Poh on the side.

đź“Ť618 Sim Carrot Cake.
block 618 Yishun st 61.
The carrot cake is wok-fried with eggs, garlic, chye poh, fish sauce and other seasonings, topped with a mountain of chye poh at the side. The carrot cake is fried beforehand then double-fried upon order for a crispy and eggy texture on the outside, soft on the inside with some wok-hei. The chye poh were surprisingly not as salty with some sweetness and crunch that balance well with the lightly seasoned carrot cake that is not too greasy or overpowering. They also serve up a pretty generous portion which is good enough to share and value for money. Good things must wait so be prepared to queue for it. I waited 30mins on an early weekend morning 》$4.50 / Large
Plenty of fantastic reviews, came here on a weekday morning 10.30am previously, but was told it would be over 90mins wait, decided not to wait then.
This time around, i came just before 7am on a sunday morning, ended up waiting Over 1 hour for this popular carrot cake.
Overflow with cai poh, 618 carrot cake is filled with minced prawns as well.
The egg was crispy. And this is the best carrot cake I have ever eaten.
It feels like a prawn omelette carrot cake.
Perhaps this would be the most insane waiting time I ever have for a plate of carrot cake. I came here at 6:20am, even before they open at 6:30am and there’s already a few people waiting to order.
I made my order right at 6:30am and was told the waiting time would be 1.5 hours! That’s crazy even coming in early morning.
I see there’s lots of order for takeaway as you see them packing it bag by bag. I literally waited from dark until the sun rise.
Finally at 7:52am I gotten my order! I was so excited by just looking at those cai po given on my plate. I could say the portion definitely very generous and actually good for 2 people to share.
I added the prawn for $5 which given another good texture and taste to the carrot cake. It is definitely worth the wait and know why so many people would want to wait even it is so long.
Love the crispy exterior of the carrot cake, topped with generous chye poh that’s enough for every bite. Ordered 2x $3 plates for 3pax and the serving is just right. The 1 hour wait in the hot coffeeshop is a turn off, will be back only when I deeply crave for it.
