Smoked Chicken Breast | Leeks | Mayonnaise | Scallions | Balsamic

Creamy smoked chicken pizza served on hand-pulled, wood fired pizza. It looked rather disappointing, with pretty measly portions of meat. The smoked chicken was thinly sliced - so thin that it appeared ham-like. I was expecting chicken chunks. Being so thinly sliced and sparsely spread out in the pizza also meant that there wasn’t any ‘smoked chicken’ taste nor bites from the chicken. It was rather disappointing. The cream, and the leeks were pretty good tho! But… would I pay $28 for leek, mayo pizza? Probably not…

Thicc, chocolatey coffee drink with the right notes of coffee bean and chocolate. We enjoyed the fruity, orange-y notes. Seldom do we find a cafe serving up good orange mocha!

Met standards but nothing particularly exceptional. It’s hard to go wrong with truffle isnt it? The aroma of truffle was wafted through as soon as the dish was served. There was sufficient truffle cream sauce to envelope every pasta strand. It was delightful, tho nothing exceptionally wowww about it

Sautéed Smoked Duck | Sriracha Cream | Mozzarella | Mayonnaise | Scallions

Thick cut fries fried in duck fat, then top- loaded with mayo, melted mozzarella and sriracha cream nicely blended into a creamy mix. There were some stretchy bits but there wasn’t any prominent taste of cheese. I guess it’s kinda masked by the sriracha sauce. For those we can’t take spicy foods, worry not! It wasn’t spicy at all …

1 small soft shell crab fried tempura style, served with linguini doused in tomato based sauce. Seafood-y enough for fans of seafood. I would have appreciated it a lil’ more if it wasn’t tomato-based!

Came here with my friend for dinner.

Ordered their Bacon Mac & Cheese ($19). They offer 3 option of Non-Spicy, Mild, Very Spicy. I got the Very Spicy option and when it came the server emphasized the word Very Spicy. The aroma of the dish seemed really spicy which made me really excited. However, I was left disappointed as it did not live up to my expectations. If you were to compare the spiciness from a mala xiang guo it would at most be a 小辣 level. Taste wise it was not bad, tasted like a creamy barbeque sauce. Pasta was Al dente and there were a few pieces of bacon.

We also got their Churros ($12) 6 pieces which came coated with 5 spice sugar and chocolate sauce at the side. Honestly I didn't enjoy the 5 spice sugar coating, as it kind of reminds me of fried chicken cutlet. Would have prefer just cinnamon sugar coating.

Would I be back? I don't think so as I did wait quite some time at the entrance before I was let in.

Laksa with an Italian twist
.
Dry Linguine with tiger prawns, chives, cherry tomatoes; drenched in laksa sauce
.

Couscous with mandarin orange, scallions, baby spinach, cherry tomatoes, wolfberry, spicy plum dressing, peanuts
.
I opt for smoked duck breast
.

food was alright to be honest. the smoked duck aglio olio ($20) was way too salty but the staff was kind and friendly enough to help us get a less salty version.

bee’s knees big breakfast ($28) ran out of miso mushrooms and kurobuta ham, which were the special parts of this exact dish.

the oriental salad ($19) and truffle tater tots ($13) were pretty decent.

but i think the highlight here is the number of adorable dogs you get to see when you sit outdoors haha

Ordered Shrooms Bagel & Ham Bagel, ice lemon tea & iced latte, lastly their recommended Macadamia Butter Blondie. The bagels are just alright & just so you guise know, it's supposed to be POACHED eggs as stated in their menu but when it came, it was soft boil egg.. just a little more & it will be hard boil eggs already ya? The ham was also very salty. The drinks were decent, like how it should taste.

So, finally. It's time for the blondie which we highly anticipated. We got the server to serve it. Waited 10mins, didn't come. Asked again for the SECOND time, didn't come. Asked the 3rd time, oh it didn't come but we were told that the chef was making it & had to wait 5mins. (Did the first waitress have no basic courtesy to at least inform us we had to wait?) The 5mins turned into 15mins & it did not come. We waited a total of 35mins, the blondie obviously turned blonde & melted so it disappeared?? Went to cashier to cancel it & guess what? The cashier readily cancelled with no concern as to why we did it & return us our money. So what does this say? This action clearly shows that they were very ready to cancel it & they prolly did not have the item ready at all.
(they did not bother to try to do service recovery at all 🙂 Understand that they do not charge service fees but to give this kinda service?)

Not sure how I feel about wanting to go back to try their lunch/dinner menu, but I will definitely not recommend this place. Terribly service with subpar food that's not worth the travel or wait.

A spread of my top two fave: *Truffle Carbonara Pasta*, *Smoked Chicken Mayo pizza*, Reuben sandwiches, and Fruits Quinoa.

Truffle scent is on the lighter side, nailed when combined with the cream and generous and big bacon chunks.

Smoked chicken mayo is for all mayo lovers! Creamy taste that reminds me of Classified Chicken from dominoes. Fave amongst us too.

How I imagined a picnic to be - dining in the breezy evening with the setting sun and paired with delectable pasta, pizzas, desserts and friends. Featured here is the Smoked Duck Aglio Olio, Beef Cheek Bolognese Parpadelle, Margherita pizza and Truffle carbonara pizza!

The picnic buzzkets by Bee's Knees came with 4 plush cushions and the essentials for a picnic. Ps. Fairy lights are our own addition

We got the
- smoked chicken pizza : this had a thumbs up but wouldn't recommend this as it had too much mayo and got really sickening
- truffle pasta : The truffle taste wasn't very strong and not much mushroom
- Laksa risotto : the quantity was quite small. It came with prawns and the prawns were good
- Mac n Cheese: nothing much to say
- fries with duck? (sorry can't rmb the exact name) : this was good and the portion was quite large!
Overall : we realised we ordered too many creamy dishes 😅 so don't forget to note that when you order!

After a long, tiring day/week, finally visited the Bee’s Knees at The Garage! I love discovering food places I’ve yet to try. So, was the food the bee’s knees?

Beef Cheek Bolognese [$21++]: Pappardelle, braised beef cheek, tomato, basil, parmesan.
The pasta was kind of like lasagna sheets but a long, thin version. Couldn’t taste the basil. The beef cheek was not much and not amazing. Price a little steep for what it is but at least the pasta tasted okay and was al dente.

The Veggie Goat [$17++]:
Quinoa, goat cheese, baby spinach, cherry tomatoes, beetroot, roasted nuts, pumpkin, balsamico.
Shared this vegetarian salad with my friend. There was lots of quinoa. I didn’t find any pumpkin strangely! Nothing much to shout about the salad. It seemed quite plain and unvarnished to me, like an assembled mish mash of ingredients rather than a proper salad. Maybe I should have put the balsamico on it.

Peanut Butter Cheesecake [$7++]:
Peanut butter cream cheese, digestive biscuit.
I thought peanut butter and cheesecake was a weird combination but it surprisingly worked pretty well. It was not bad but again the price is a little steep for not that big a slice of cake. Could taste the digestive biscuit in the cheesecake base.

While the food is alright, it is a little on the expensive side and wasn’t so amazing that the food itself would necessarily bring me back or inspire any cravings. The food is decent and the place is fuss-free and it isn’t that difficult to get attention from the waitstaff which I appreciate.

The ambience here is really nice, with the twinkling fairy lights on the trees and outdoor umbrellas, this would be a great place for celebrations or just catching up with friends you haven’t seen in a while! A nice place for al fresco dining, I imagine an early breakfast/brunch here would be lovely. Whenever I’ve walked past I’ve always seen patrons dining - note this is a dog-friendly restaurant within the Singapore Botanic Gardens, and it’s within walking distance from Botanic Gardens MRT station. Didn’t have reservations on a Sunday night and it wasn’t a problem! PS. They have a day menu and a night menu too and $25++ for 2 cocktails.

Think cafe comfort food that is so moreish and hearty that you will keep going back for more.

The thick cut fries come in a substantial quantity with a generous drizzle of mayonnaise, mozzarella and Sriracha cream over it before sautéed smoked duck is added, giving it the finishing touch. The fiery shrimp pizza is the other item that has the Western-Asian fusion touch as the New York pizza base is slathered with a layer of squid ink garlic aioli and lined with fresh tiger prawns before a Thai-inspired chilli dressing is added to it.

The new menu offerings, that took inspirations from Head Chef Sujatha and her team’s travel experiences, focus on South East Asian flavours and textural food using regional produce. Diners will be amazed at the flavours coming from both the Spicy Duck Loaded Fries ($17) and Fiery Shrimp Pizza ($30) which you just cannot get enough of.

The former comes with a bed of golden thick-cut fries that has been drizzled generously with mayonnaise, mozzarella and Sriracha cream to give the tangy and spicy kick. A handful amount of sautéed smoked duck chunks is then layered at the top before a garnish of scallions give it the finishing touch. Café food is usually rich and hearty, and that’s what the Spicy Duck Loaded Fries bring to the table with the differing texture and flavours. The latter Fiery Shrimp Pizza transported me back to Bangkok as the New York-styled pizza base is covered with a layer of squid ink garlic aioli, lined with fresh tiger prawns and topped with a homemade tangy chili dressing that’s reminiscent of the Thai seafood sauce, nam jim.

Customized pizza dough that the crust is crispy and crusty while airy and fluffy within. Uses a housemade squid Ink garlic aioli, topped with fresh tiger prawns, mozzarella and Parmesan, then finished with housemade spicy chilli dressing.

Sauteed Smoked Duck poured over deep-fried fries, topped with mayonnaise and sriracha cream and garnished with scallion slices. Perfect snacks!

Flawlessly executed eggs benny (16++). Perfectly poached egg and a well toasted sesame bagel. Excellent food and service; no wonder it’s always packed...
