A midweek perk-me-up splurge meal was in order so I went for Aoki's Mazechirashi ($50). The lunch set came with salad, miso soup, pickles, and dessert. Really quite the treat, the ratio of toppings to rice was simply *chef’s kiss*. I had topped up $5 for uni (because we all need that extra decadence right?!).
Much love for the briny ikura and the many assortments of fish (cries in maguro)! The mixed sashimi was pleasantly marinated - fresh-tasting, plump, and savoury but not salty. There was plenty of sweetness from the abundance of their pillowy soft tamago cubes too. The Japanese cucumbers were great additions as well, offering refreshing crunchy bites in every spoonful. Oh and even the sushi rice was yummy, the temperature of the grains and the acidity were nice.
Dessert was a very competent trio of smooth matcha pudding with azuki, raspberry ice cream in a crispy Monaka, and sweet jelly, served together with a hot cup of Hojicha.
Lunch Set
🤍𝐍𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐢 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐡𝐢 𝐉𝐲𝐨 𝐒𝐞𝐧 ($35)- 7 types of Sushi 🍣 & 1 Sushi roll! Enjoyed this set and really love their tamgo sushi!
Ended the meal with a hot cup of hojicha that totally helps to cleanse our palate & allowing us to enjoy the yummy coffee jelly dessert & ice cream, which came with a candle for a birthday celeb! 🥳
SOOOOO GOOD. Worth every forking cent.
there's UNI, OTORO, IKURA inside this bowl of rainbow goodness!
Do make reservations to avoid disappointment tho.
THE DESSERTS WERE AMAZEBALLSSSS
(plus point: super clean japanese toilet 🌿)
9 piece sushi lunch set
We were pleasantly surprised that this lunch set has an uni and fatty tuna nigiri at its given price! The set also comes with a small salad, chawanmushi, miso soup, green tea and dessert💕 Really enjoyed our meal there!
Standards definitely has dropped through the years. Price point and location comparison, would still rather go to Tatsya on the other side of Orchard Road.
Think ultra fresh and juicy pieces of a spectrum of fish and seafood, from maguro to octopus, squid, toro, and even 4 pieces of uni. The raw fish was well complemented by fluffy and sweet tamago, ikura, and Japanese cucumber. The rice was also warm and fluffy. There’s really nothing to fault - already planning my next return visit 😋

Part of the Les Amis Group, the food is sublime, service impeccable and ambience, luxe without being too pretencious.

I love their barachirashi don. ($42 for a lunch set and $60 for an alacarte dinner) you get an assortment of fish ranging from the common to the premium. The fish is marinated but not overtly so that you can still identify what fish you're having. Gobs of uni and ikura pearls amp up the umami factor while the tamago lends a touch of sweetness. Even the rice is the ideal temperature and acidity.

Reservations are highly recommended especially for lunch as they have two seatings.
Taste: Teriyaki Cod fish. It literally melted in my mouth when I put it in. Boneless too! Very palatable and flavourful! Awesome!
Atmosphere: We were given a private dining corner and ambience was great. Simple decoration with a tint of japanese culture. What blew me away was the toilet. Upon entering the toilet, the cover of the toilet bowl was automatically opened up. Wow! There were many buttons which you could press too. Amazing!
Service: Staff was very attentive and food was served to us in a very timely manner. They would also explain the items we are eating in a very patient tone.
Price: ~$35
Where to find this place: Shaw Centre. Located at level 1 facing the main road.
Taste: Lunch Bento set. Comprised of sashimi, rice, vegetables and tempura. Every single item on this bento was delicious!

Set lunch ($35) with assortment of sushi (flounder, Ikura, tuna, mackerel, amberjack, tamago). Sushi is Edomae-style where the warm rice is seasoned with salt and vinegar. Each piece is firm, thick, and long enough to cover the rice. There is a special fridge behind the sushi counter that is customised to keep the fish at the optimum temperature. According to its website, the fish is sourced from Tsukiji market. Nice option in Orchard area
🔹mazechirashi $42
🔹gonna dare tekka don $42
🔹nigri sushi joy-sen $35
all set lunch comes with appetizer ototshi , salad, dessert (mochi, jelly and ice cream)
Top 5 Barachirashi don in town. The mix of different fish, together with uni and ikura on top of a bed of great Japanese rice is my favourite combi for a chirashi don. Lunch set comes with appetizer and desert. Great service.
#tip #solodiners: Call early to reserve for a counter seat. Then you can watch the chef at work and you won't look out of place.
Total bill including GST: $60
I had this a while back and aoki is one of my to go places for a weekday set lunch. Mazechirashi is my favourite - every mouth is a burst of flavours. Pls reserve, mazechirashi comes in limited portions daily!
Mazechirashi (S$40++)
Sushi rice topped with mixed sashimi.
Served with salad, miso soup, pickles and dessert.
There's an additional S$4++ charge for Otoshi.
Available during lunch
The serving looked small but surprisingly filling. The best part turned out to be the Tamago (egg roll) which was reminded me of butter cake with pillowy texture.
Dessert was plum ice cream 🍦, mochi topped with kinako soya bean powder and brown syrup, and plum wine jelly. |

Hands down, the best Chirashi don I have eaten. Except, the most expensive as well HAHAHAHA but priced at $40, the amount of fish they give is insane!!!! 1 part rice to 2 parts fish, you can tell how much fish they give :-) also, the $40 includes two mini appetizers and a dessert which to me, makes it all the more worth the money. It feels like a mini omakase meal to me 😍😍😍 For all who wants their Chirashi fix, this is defo the place to go!!!
Your meal starts off with a cold appetizer of pickled sliced radish that's nothing special followed by a serving of salad. The piece de resistance arrives soon after and it really is quite a pretty sight for sore eyes. Fresh ingredients combine to make a decent don. But perhaps the small cubes didn't satisfy that sashimi craving I had (think full-on thick slabs). Our meal finished off with a trio of desserts- soft and smooth mochi, banana ice cream and a strawberry jelly of sort.
I'm a Mazechirashi convert! Only if it's this good obviously! Www.ms-skinnyfat.com active link in bio!
Aoki has been known for their mazechirashi long before pieces of raw fish sitting on rice became all the rage. Their rendition stars a mountain of marinated mixed sashimi, sweet cubes of tamago, bursts of briny ikura, creamy dabs of uni, and sliced cucumbers. All this goodness gently rests on just the right amount of perfectly cooked and seasoned sushi rice, giving you that hard-to-achieve ratio of toppings to rice. The Mazechirashi lunch set goes for $40++ — fantastic value considering both the incredible quality you get and the hefty price tag for dinner here. This is one of those lunches you should treat a loved one to, or perhaps a zen afternoon all to yourself. Reservations are a must!
Celebrated birthday with this much raved-about lunch set, and it didn't disappoint!
A lunch set that is worth your money is Aoki's Mazechirashi lunch set going for $40++. You should always make a reservation prior and also reserve a chirashi set at the same time as each timing block is limited to serve only 10 sets.
The Mazechirashi is an explosion of amazing flavours. From the sweetness of the rice, tamago and marinated sashimi, to the slight saltiness of the fish roe and uni, and the crunchy coolness of the Japanese cucumbers. Just the experience of eating this chirashi don is wonderful.
