Their sauce has got good depth and it's slightly reminiscent of lor mee's broth. When you mix everything, the sweetness of the sauce really comes through and it's very very comforting. It's been a while since I've had a good bowl of duck porridge and I've forgotten how good it can be.
Duck wasn't the most tender but it's very chunky and the chew goes well w the porridge. While the porridge itself was plain and super soft, there's actually a bit of texture. Are there 2 kinds of grains inside?
The lime chili was ok, if a bit bland. The sambal was power though and full of spice.
Really good stuff, quite a generous portion too. I'm surprised there's almost no queue, esp with the value for money nature.
This might be fear factor for some but I implore you to fear-less as this plate of kway chap (starting from $3.50) is what every carnivorous person should aspire to achieve. While some might deter from ordering the big intestines as some stalls do not clean it properly, which results in a stench, you can rest assure that Ah Kee does it impeccably well. Everything was so well balanced and you will not experience any strong “herbally” flavour in the braising liquid. I would highly recommend adding the pork belly/braised duck and especially the silky smooth pig’s skin.

This stall at Hong Lim Market & Food Centre is a foolproof choice for when you're in the mood for consistently good kway chap. Burpple Tastemaker Julius Lim also likes it for its affordable price and generous portions — definitely a plus for larger appetites or post-workout meals! The cook is known to pile the plates, but don't let that stop you from adding on a portion of duck to your basic Kway Chap Set (from $3.50). The bird is their specialty after all, and the meat is tender yet with great bite. Other add-ons to consider are Pig's Ears ($1) and Large Intestine ($1.50). That's exactly what Burpple Tastemaker Julius Lim ordered, and his heaping plateful of goodness came up to a very, very decent $6. Burp!
Avg price: $5

Once upon a time, I had this almost every Sunday after gym. Alas, they changed their opening hours and I rarely get the chance to patronize Ah Kee (#02-18) anymore. I’m glad to say that it’s still just as good and super value for money!
One thing they aren’t shy about is putting a whole lot of meat on your plate. With the normal set and a couple of add-ons, this stacked plate only costs $6! And the liao is gooooood... Everything has had ample care and is tender and juicy. I’d also recommend adding on their duck to this set as that’s their speciality.
Duck meat was tender and skillfully sliced to have the same thickness that is perfect for the bite. Read more: http://www.misstamchiak.com/an-kee-braised-duck-rice-hong-lim-food-centre/
