The meat and sauce were both ok. Nothing spectacular at all

Was craving braised duck kway chap so bad so I went early to Golden Mile Food Centre for Ah Xiao’s braised duck. It did not disappoint, but it must have been bad luck because the queue, seemingly not long, had people before us ordering for a whole village!!! Though that might also be a testament to how loyal their customers are and how good their food might be. Their kway itself was nothing special, but the duck was soft and tender, braised in a dark sauce that was just lightly herbaceous. With the amount of ingredients, I thought the price was pretty worth it!

The braised duck here is soft and tender.

The sauce is those waterly type, with a subtle hint of herbal-ness.

The chilli sauce is the vinegar style type. Which I felt was quite good, but I preferred those with sambal style chilli.

The 2nd generation stall owner is very friendly.

Was craving kway chap in this rainy weather and the kway chap from this stall hits just the spot! Their kway chap is very much different from other stalls, because you get to choose different ingredients to go with your duck pieces. They do not have intestine, but they have duck glizzards! I got pig skin, braised pork belly and glizzards to go with their duck, costing a total of $7.50. I must say, their duck and pork belly slices are so tender and flavourful and goes especially well with their chilli. Their chilli is really on another level; super garlicky and vinegary with a some heat. Their other ingredients are fresh and flavourful too. A really wholesome and comforting meal!

Duck Rice ($19 for half duck)

This stall had the longest queue on a weekend afternoon, so we joined because well, we too love a good plate of duck rice 😁 Sadly, this was thoroughly average and actually quite forgettable. The duck, whilst expertly sliced and nicely played, was pretty tough and did not absorb the braising sauce. The sauce itself was a little thin and lacked any notable complexity. Had also hoped that they would serve yam rice but it was just plain white rice. Overall, it’s an alright plate, but we don’t quite understand the perpetuallly long queue.
