The Pumpkin Golden Crab is still the highlight here, it’s really different from the usual chilli and pepper varieties and comes in a luxuriant, sweet and creamy pumpkin sauce that’s finger-licking good. Their side dishes were no slouches either. Mum commended the braised pork buns and said they tasted like how my grandma used to make them. I liked the Red Wine Pork Ribs that were really tender and juicy. We were treated to contemporary Italian dishes served with flair. The canapés were really strong; especially loved the scallop tartare and bright gazpacho in the shape of a tomato! Uni pasta was delightfully al dente and really championed the top-grade sea urchin, while the secreto was remarkably and paired well with the caramelised apple and charred endives. Dessert was a refreshing yoghurt semifreddo with fresh berries. This was their Beef Platter which fed four of us. The striploin was exquisitely tender, while the Wagyu hanger boasted great flavour. You know you’re in the right place when you see tables of Japanese salarymen laughing heartily over plates of comfort food. The name sounds somewhat pretentious and I was a little worried to find the restaurant rather empty at 2pm. Thankfully it delivered on taste. I had the Signature Trio Ramen which included 2 large prawns, prawn dumplings and prawn paste with ebiko. Noodles were of the right firmness, but the winner was the broth. Almost bisque-like, it had extracted the maximum sweetness and umami from the prawns and was full-bodied. I think the stereotype is that vegetarian food is boring and mainly consists of fried beancurd products or salads. Elemen Restaurant at Millenia Walk debunks this myth with a choice of 5 or 8 courses for lunch. Had the latter with my parents recently and was quite pleasantly surprised with the variety and taste. The Tomato Soup with Crab was the perfect starter, flavourful like a bisque and very comforting. The Buttermilk Fried Chicken with Caviar was a decadent show-stopper, crispy yet wonderfully moist on the inside with an outer coating of umami. The salsa was a good addition, tangy and helped negate some of the saltiness. Desserts are their forte and the two cakes we had, Five Stones and San Domingue, were mind-blowingly good. It was 10pm and most places had closed their kitchens. Thankfully KURO Izakaya was our lifesaver and the servers ushered us in despite it being 15 minutes to closing time! Their Kuro Premium Wagyu Don really hit the spot; the beef was a perfect medium rare and had a nice smoky flavour. Together with ikura, caviar and a perfectly runny onsen egg atop warm rice, this was an unbeatable combination. Wife approved of the karaage, which came in a thin and crispy batter that was super addictive.
