Right from the start we were taken care of by the affable Didier, who set us at ease instantly with his humorous banter. The food was impeccably executed as well. My entree of local bug tails was really succulent and sweet, with just the right amount of acidity. The Crispy Duck Confit, Truffle Risotto, Chicken Wings and Pecorino was a SHOWSTOPPER. The skin wasn’t crispy and the duck was slightly dry in parts, but it was packed so incredibly full of flavour that all was forgiven. Every other component in the dish was faultless and complemented the protein superbly. Desserts were no slouch either, and we thoroughly enjoyed the warm apple tart and perfectly oozy chocolate fondant. If there’s a contemporary Australian restaurant I’d recommend in a heartbeat, it’s Jonez On Food. It didn’t disappoint! The Cod in Superior Soy Sauce was a unanimous winner with its crispy skin, delicate texture and abundant fish oils. The Lychee Duck also impressed with its tender meat and a subtle fruity fragrance. Almost all dishes hit the mark except the Vegetarian Claypot; the bamboo shoots were raw and the fermented bean paste was too overpowering. Run by an affable Japanese couple, this restaurant serves up authentic Japanese home-cooked dishes with flair. Standout dishes include the Scallops with Miso Butter, Nasu Dengaku (Miso Eggplant) and Seaweed Pasta with Squid and Tobiko. Quail was wonderfully-executed with strong punchy flavours. In contrast the pork tenderloin was somewhat muted, though the doneness could not be faulted. I did enjoy the ratatouille at the bottom, very rustic. Chocolate mousse checked all the boxes, rich and decadent. The Peking duck here is pretty authentic with a good punch from the hoisin sauce, though the skin could have been crispier. This was my second visit after a long time and the experience this time was no less wonderful. Here’s the highlight reel:

1. Chutoro - This literally melted in my mouth like butter. Fatty with a long finish. A showstopper!
2. Akami - Bright, slightly metallic with a hint of yuzu, this has always been one of their best pieces.
3. Aji - Summer’s representative fish was incredibly flavourful. Chef was right, no matter what you do to this fish, it’s bound to be delicious.
4. Chawanmushi - The sweet corn and crab hidden within imparted much sweetness to the egg custard.
5. Uni Ikura Don - This moreish bowl of creamy goodness and umami was the climax at the end of a superb meal.
Some slight misses on that day, such as the shari not being packed tightly enough. But it was not enough to detract from an excellent meal overall. 9/10, I foresee I’ll be back again sooner rather than later!

We’ve come here a few times and vouch for their perfectly-caramelised fatty char siew. Tried a few new dishes today and some of them were memorable, like the tea-smoked roast chicken and steamed sea bass with fried bean. If you’re looking for Chinese cuisine in a casual setting that won’t burn too large a hole in your wallet, I’d highly recommend this restaurant. The panoramic view from the 62nd floor is spectacular and the food didn’t disappoint either. Standout course for me was definitely the almond-crusted tenderloin that came with a moreish bone marrow sauce and silky smooth cauliflower purée. They really nailed the medium-rare doneness. The 3-course lunch set here is $48++ which is a steal considering the quality.
