Ever reliable and welcoming, Osia Steak & Seafood Grill is a family favourite. They don’t really re-invent the wheel here, but you can trust them to deliver on taste and flavour every single time. Take their Smoked Salmon & Creme Fraiche Flatbread for instance, the colours popped off the plate and so did the flavours! Their Toothfish with Miso Espuma is so good I made sure to order two portions, amazing texture and harmony. The tenderloin was perfectly cooked, robust and full of beefy flavour. I really liked the bed of blueberry risotto underneath, full of earthy punchy flavours from bacon and mushrooms. The restaurant is located in a revamped shophouse with a communal setting and open kitchen. I thought the cooking was very assured and confident. I loved the wasabi sorbet in the starter, it provided a playful kick yet wasn’t too overpowering. Sauces were punchy and full-bodied; the duck, cod and scallop dishes were all complemented beautifully. The clear broth is surprisingly robust and packs lots of seafood sweetness. I love that they use mee tai mak here. Igokuchi Dining Bar is helmed by Chef Ivan Teng and has been serving hungry foodies in the west for the past 1 year! I had the 15-course dinner omakase for $88 and was pretty impressed by the quality of fish. Especially enjoyed the plump hotate and clean-tasting akami. Some points for improvement though. The rice wasn’t tightly-packed for some pieces and the shake (salmon) was sliced a little haphazardly. But all was forgiven when I was handed a temaki with minced toro and shreds of takuan. I had the Lobster and Scallop Risotto thanks to a glowing review from @rubbisheatrubbishgrow and it didn’t disappoint. Lobster was succulent with a slight char and the scallops were seared to perfection. The seafood stock was reminiscent of a bisque, rich with crustacean sweetness. The Black Mushroom Truffle Emulsion was velvety yet not too overpowering, one of the most luxurious renditions I’ve had. We went to the branch at Blk 711 Ang Mo Kio Ave 8. Food was above average and dishes arrived in quick succession. Kurofune is regarded as the best ramen in Ofunato by Pastor S, and I can see why. It’s specialty is the sweet shellfish broth that’s light but umami-packed and also comes with a mini abalone.
