True Breakfast is a small shop selling Taiwanese breakfast fare at the unassuming basement of Cuppage Plaza. Headed there around noon on a Sunday and there was a sizeable crowd, especially with the limited seating capacity. Yet, it seemed like customers did not wait too long to get seated.

Went for the Guo Shao Egg Noodles which looked interesting - kind of like your local Ee Mian but the texture of the egg noodles were indeed a bit different. Slightly rounded than flat, and on the softer side - not much of a bounce nor chew. The broth was very light, but had hints of umami and bonito flavour, which I thought was interesting, but very unlike the soup of ban mian like you’d expect. Got the scallion pancake to pair with the noodles, but would love to try the Taiwanese omelette one day as well!

Thick Toast Crispy Butter ($4.50)
This was a skip for me, because altho the toast was crispy, it was pretty dry. Most of the flavour comes only from the top of the toast - the other flavours might have been better.

Milk Tea ($2.50)
Pretty disappointed with this as I ordered it expecting pretty good Taiwanese Tea, but turned out to be quite bland.

Really comforting and enjoyable food that really satisfied my Taiwanese bfast cravings despite these 2 misses, and an experience that's worth going for in place of travelling to Taiwan in the meantime.

First time trying noodles with such a texture, it's slightly chewy and soft (?), But I particularly liked the broth which was so strong in the bonito flavour! Definitely could slurp everything up! 🤭
