More Reviews of good food at Tomo Izakaya (Clarke Quay)

This was AMAZINGGggggg! Went in with no expectations after a long tiring run on a Sunday evening, only to be surprised by how generous this bowl of chirashi don was. Plus, we got it for a steal with the Shopee voucher at $15!!! (The original price was $32). The sashimi was thick and fresh, the grilled unagi had a lovely grilled smoky taste, and the uni was melt-in-the-mouth. The bowl even came with 2 thick cuts of beef (that was nicely grilled). Service was good and the ambience was lovely as well. Would highly recommend this!:)

This also means that you can dine in at any one of the five locations namely Tomo Izakaya, Hutong, Bayang, Muchos’ Mexican and RENNthai, and order the food across these restaurants.

With the arrival of Spring, Tomo Izakaya brings to the table a new dish to commemorate the season. The Chirashi-Zushi ($48) is a platter that is good to share among 3-4 pax with a base of sushi rice topped with an assortment of visually appealing ingredients such as uni, salmon, mekajiki, grilled unagi, tamago, ebi and ikura. The pro tip is to take a bit of every single ingredient and eat it in a mouthful so that you can fully enjoy the different textures and flavours. In addition to the chirashi, you can also order these freshly shucked oysters at only $2 while enjoying the 1-for-1 alcoholic beverage promotion of Japanese beer, wines, cocktails and spirits during Happy Hour.

Featuring a special shoyu blend, the clear broth of Tomo Izakaya’s Tokyo Ramen certainly sets it apart from other recipes. Light yet flavourful, the soup carries a refreshing sweetness and one sip will give way to the fragrance as well as savouriness of the bonito flakes rich base. Mmmm… Umami goodness. However, the noodles were on the softer side and the slice of char siu was a tad tough. That being said, it was a decent bowl of ramen at $9.50 and the lovely ajitama definitely earned bonus points.

Unlike usual shoyu based ramens I've had, Tomo Izakaya's version is much lighter to the palette. Even though it was nice to slurp down, I personally felt like something was missing - the kind of punch in flavour that will keep me going in for the broth. Would have really liked for our ramens to be served hotter and I also wished the noodles had more of a bite. The slice of pork could be more tender and flavorful but the ajitama was spot on and very well seasoned! That said, the $9.50nett price tag makes it quite worth it. It was non-peak hours but it took a while for our food to be served, so do take note if you're in a look out for a quick bite.

The Kai Ramen's soup base is made using 2 types of clam: asari and hamaguri. Other ingredients used to enhance the taste of the soup include chicken bones, Japanese snapper bones and vegetables.

The soup is paired with specially customised jade green noodles - and this is the first time green ramen noodles are offered in a Japanese restaurant in Singapore. The ramen is then garnished with wakame seaweed and yuzu peel, which accentuate the soup's seafood flavour.

I enjoyed the clams as they were rather fresh, but I found the soup to be a tad light in flavour for me, I prefer a saltier soup base. However, I found the inclusion of yuzu peel in the soup to be refreshing.

One of 3 new ramen dishes launched by Tomo Izakaya, this bowl is my favourite out of the 3.

Following a recipe that has been passed down for 2 generations by Chef Murata's master, the Tokyo Ramen features a special shoyu blended soup base.

This ramen evokes nostalgic feelings, and whisked me away to old time Japan. The soup is made with a medley of ingredients such as pork bone marrows, chicken bones, niboshi (Japanese dried infant sardines), vegetables, Japanese dried scallop and prawns.

The premium ingredients give the soup a robust and piquant flavour. Swimming in it are classic egg noodles, which are than topped with Kurobuta pork char siu.

Priced at only $9.50 NETT during lunchtime, this seals the deal overall.

My favourite among the three is Tokyo Ramen [$9.50] as it feature a special shoyu blended soup base that elicit the nostalgic feelings of Japan. The shoyu soup base is made from pork bone marrow, chicken bones, niboshi (Japanese dried infant sadines), bonito flakes, vegetables, Japanese dried scallop and prawns. Swimming in it are classic egg noodles (my favourite), followed with char siu made with kurobuta pork.

Boston lobster in Yu Sheng?! Yes the best of everything 😍

This Abundance Yu Sheng ($68++) from Tomo izakaya seriously cannot maintain 😧

Apart from the medley of seafood, the homemade Japanese sauces will supplement and string the ingredients 😋

Bring your family here this CNY to experience Yu Sheng in a different Japanese 🇯🇵 flavor. It is so gorgeous, everyone will probably be snapping photos and can't bear to eat the lou hei 😅

This consists of Boston lobster, salmon sashimi and white fish sashimi, and comes with Japanese sauces which I felt were more palatable than the usual suspects!

Sweet potato tiramisu which is gorgeously, luxuriously creamy. The mascarpone was smooth and light, adorned with sweet potato, fig conpo and sprinklings of cocoa was a delight.

The perfect beer snack! Crispy and sliced thin like a potato crisp, it is sure addictive. Seasoned with some light spices, there is a little kick to the taste that every locals would love. Down it with some good old pint of Japanese beer, and you are set for the good night of laughter and conversations. Perfect place to start the night around Clark Quay.

Featuring the appetiser for $666 (6-8pax) and $888 (8-10pax) menu:
• Marinated Octopus Wasabi
• Unagi with Cucumber
• Simmered Duck
• Deep Fried Baby River Prawn
• Edamame

One of my favourites among these are the Marinated Octopus Wasabi, though it may look raw but it isn't. There isn't any fishy smell from the octopus, just light wasabi taste.

Rubbery unagi from #tomoizakaya. #meh Doesn't help that it was cold by the time it got to me. 😒

This is the Japanese rendition of the Chinese New Year Yusheng. Here's a tower of colours filled with fresh seafood, and assorted condiments.
