Nowhere near the most affordable for Chinese cuisine, but the hot and sour noodles were decent. Comes with lard and a generous topping of peanuts, but don’t expect anything other than oil and noodles in this dish. No meat or other ingredients – you’d be better off getting the cup noodle version of this for half the price.
We also had Spicy Chicken 重庆辣子鸡 ($22.80) which cannot go wrong:P The deep fried chicken bites are well seasoned and the chicken skin and peanuts are very fragrant.
For sides, we had Chinese Burger 肉夹馍 ($5) which features pork, lettuce and cucumber slices in between a crispy and flaky pastry. I like the texture of the pastry, but the pork is a little mild for me - will opt for the spicy version next time!
We ordered Sichuan Pickle Fish 川泡菜烤鱼 ($46.80) and it is pretty good! Glad we opted for the normal level of spiciness because it is a comfortable level of spiciness that allows us to keep going till the end. The broth is savoury, tangy and flavourful, and the crunchy pickles complement the texture of the super soft fish. The fish is quite salty at first, but I got used to it after awhile. We also added on a variety of ingredients ($3 - $3.80 each) such as black fungus, sweet potato noodle, beancurd skin, tofu and mushroom, which go really well with the broth. My favourite will have to be the sweet potato noodle (宽粉) - the chewy texture is so satisfying!
