Got 50% off. Good soup, decent amount of food for 4 paxs.
Additional $1.50 for garlic rice.
The garlic rice is nice and fragrant.
Better known for its premium shabu shabu buffet ($49.90/pax), Shabuya has now launched a brand new 10-seater sushi bar and an omakase menu. Diners can choose from an 8 course or 12 course menu, starting at $88. Here's the Surf Clam, Tuna Tataki and Aburi Salmon Belly nigiri sushi. All were fresh but the best has got to be the Aburi Salmon, torched just nice, had a nice amount of creaminess and melted in the mouth!
A huge thank you to Shabuya and Sochu Bar, @creativeeatries for hosting us and @juliuslim for the invite! ππ»
Because of a friend's generous dinner treat, I got to know about this set meal which left a positive impression on me.
The overall quality was undeniable with the star of the show being the big platter piled high with premium meats. The beautifully marbled slices of Japanese Miyazaki ribeye and chuck roll were melt-in-the-mouth tender after being dipped quickly in our individual pots of boiling soup (I chose the chicken over the other options of tonkatsu, shoyu, dashi and chilli). Just as delicious were the Kurobuta pork belly and thinly-sliced chicken, with or without me swishing them in the three types of dips provided. And even though this is known as the "Japanese Miyazaki Beef Set", bounty from the sea was represented by a plate of large green mussels, clams and snapper. The vegetables weren't found lacking either. Served in big bowls were chunks of corn on cob, Nappa cabbage, leek, carrot sticks, enoki and shiitake mushrooms. For carbs, I picked the garlic fried rice (which was a bit clumpy but fragrant) over the ramen and udon. You would think that's plenty enough but hang on, there's more! We were also given an octopus salad with creamy sesame dressing, a tray of sashimi (salmon, tuna and raw shrimp), a small bowl of oden and mixed tempura - all of which were really decent.
The best part of tonight's dinner though was the unexpected $80 discount. This meant our $248.80 set meal for 4 pax cost only $168.80 before taxes! When I asked how long is this promotion on for, the staff replied to say it's at the discretion of their management. Well, I for one hope they don't end it too quickly as it's extremely good value.
Cold wet and aimless, we decided to sit down and have a long early dinner. For the price of $45++, this place is not stingy on the quality and portion. I swear those meat gave us a huge scare, but at a table of four we successfully conquered the plates. Didn't took a picture of the tiger prawns which are the freshest and biggest I have ever seen on a buffet menu. SO WORTH EVERY PENNY. Please take note, the chicken soup base is a waste of time. Do take their tonkotsu soup base which is definitely full in flavor.
