I really believe this is one of the best cafes in Singapore, as it checks all the boxes: beautiful aesthetics, relaxing atmosphere and best of all, good coffee.
I got myself an Iced White ($5.50) and I loved how it comes in a nice cup that actually helps the coffee to stay cold for a longer period of time. The coffee itself is very aromatic, boasting both nutty and chocolate notes altogether. It was very rich and stayed flavourful throughout the hour while I was there. The milk and ice ratio were also perfect.
I definitely see myself coming back here frequently, as long as I am around the area. Great for any occasion, you should pay a visit here one day!cks all the boxes: beautiful aesthetics, relaxing atmosphere and best of all, good coffee.

Loved the vibes and coffee here at @runescoffee! The cafe boasts a rather large space, with a cosy and relaxing ambience fit to hold good conversations 😄
I had the Iced Mocha ($6), which was really smooth and rich. The chocolate used was of good quality and complemented well with the fragrant coffee used. Splendid cup of coffee that gave me the booster I needed!
Definitely will be back to try their other coffee variations and food items offered 😍
Being a sister cafe to Glyph Supply Co, which is also a cafe-roastery, Runes serves a range of classic espresso-based coffee brews. Highly recommending the white, which boasts of a robust flavour sans strong acidity. You might even be able to taste hints of milk chocolate amidst the medium-bodied coffee!
If you’d like to have some staple food, you might want to give their sushi rice bowls a try. Other than choosing the protein, all rice bowls come with Japanese rice, onsen egg, steamed broccoli, hawker corn, garlic chips and shredded Nori. A hearty and pretty balanced rice bowl, the large miso salmon rice bowl had 2 thick and tender salmon chunks. (Large portion comes with additional 50g of rice and double portion of protein.) Can I just say that the addition of deep fried garlic chips was simply magical? Overall taste was enhanced with its fragrant aroma and slight caramelic sweetness. The disappointment was probably the onsen egg that should have been oozy instead of a solid hard egg yolk and the miso taste was way too mild.
Relatively quiet yet spacious cafe with a glasshouse interior tucked away in a corner of Buona Vista, you’d have to walk a distance from the MRT station to locate the Wilmar International building. With the lush greenery surroundings and natural sunlight peaking through, it’s definitely a place you would want to spend an afternoon at.
The food menu might not seem to be extensive, but it includes a few items in each category of mains, rice bowls and build-your-own-bowl. I had the grilled chicken, which comes with a 200g seasoned chicken thigh, with its skin grilled till crispy while retaining its succulence without being overly greasy. Drizzling of some mustard sauce brought out the meat’s juiciness with its slightly warm yet sharp vinegary punch, that’s uniquely pleasing to the palette. Served along with roasted potatoes and seasoned broccoli for a wholesome meal.
