very simple rendition of chendol.
not too sweet.

Old school chendol, perfect for a hot day. Red beans are quite a mouthful, tasting almost like eating japanese red bean paste with actual red beans (bigger than the typical ones we see in a market). Malay pandan jelly a.k.a cendol is the real star.

An amazing bowl of chendol for $2.50! Gula, red bean, green jelly, coconut- perfect Asian dessert! Best by far!

An unassuming stall with just some green jellies, red bean, a tub of coconut milk and gula melaka (brown sugar) scooped onto ice, BUT not all Chendols are made equal. It’s a burst of flavour. Complex, gratifying and my happiness index surged in a second. That green chendol jelly is was like how good nonya kuehs taste- a tad salty, keeps you going. Definitely far from the usual boring plain flour -taste-like-nothing kind. A definite must try if you’re in that complex.

$2 for a bowl of chendol!

The shaved ice dessert is made of pandan jelly “worms”, Azuki beans and cold-pressing coconut milk. Drenched in a smoky gula melaka with finely crushed ice, the chendol fragrant and red beans aren’t too sweet either.

Old amoy chendol uses azuki red beans sourced from Japan and the green chendol tastes legit!! 😱 Not like those cheapo neon green one you buy from fairprice MUAHAH gula melaka was generously served *sweet* 👌 overall, the fragrance of each element melt really well together in your mouth.
🍧
Nonetheless i'll still opt for my Nyona Chendol franchise which you see everywhere in hawker centres as they provide a bigger serving for the same price and almost the same taste 🤑

I'll get this again when i'm back in chinatown feeling expensive for $2 and hot for a dessert :D yalls give it a try too cause it's good food served by a young hawker 🥰 (thanks OGS for letting us find out about this ice gemmmmmmm)
