The temperatures here are crazy this monthā¦ glad to rediscover the olāChendol ā¦ this iced balanced mix of Peranakan origin hits the spot on a hot day !! Four thumbs out of 5 from āiā
What a balm on a scorching afternoon - an icy mountain slaked in a thicker-than-usual coat of gula melaka, so much so that a pool of that ambrosial liquid had gathered at the bottom of the bowl. I appreciated the fact that they served a version simply adorned with pale green slivers of subtly scented pandan jelly sans the red beans, as it made for a light and refreshing dessert after lunch.
Taste: 3.5/5
I really liked how simple the ORIGINAL CHENDOL ($1.50) was as each ingredient was given more space to shine. It only contains the 3 key ingredients - green jelly, palm sugar syrup & fragrant coconut milk.
Def share coz the palm sugar syrup is reallyyy thick. Maybe they could have thawed the green jelly too coz it was still frozen
What a nice dessert to have on a hot sunny Sunday.
For those that don't like red beans like me, u can have this $1.50 option.
Cheap, refreshing. And overflow with gula meleka
As I was reaching the bottom, still can feel a layer of gula melaka underneath. No need worry store kiam on the gula melaka.
Super sinful.
Chendol (Red Bean) ($2.50) was quite sweet due to red bean topping. My mum decided to try it out for another topping (š½) instead as it's quite salty š².
Their gula melaka syrup taste is very special, not a typical gula melaka that you normally bought from wet market or supermarket. It has old-school taste. I ordered durian chendol with add on corns for $3.50. One bowl is best for two person sharing.
