Moxie has been making its rounds on social media for it’s undeniably sophisticated and clean aesthetics, attentive service, and Mediterranean food - which they did not disappoint during my visit. The Umami rice was recommended by the staff as their most popular and loved dish. This was Moxie’s rendition of a paella, simmered in shellfish bisque that was full of squid and mussels within and three grilled tiger prawns atop. This dish was truly an umami bomb of flavour, giving one that seafood savoury was but also that hint of sweetness that hits you with every bite. But that was pretty much about it, and perhaps for the price I was expecting something mind blowing.

Nonetheless, the service is impeccable and the ambience is great, despite looking extremely unassuming from its exterior.

Started off my meal at Moxie with their 2 dip platter comprising of hummus and whipped ricotta. The hummus was thick, rich, and creamy, and the black garlic confit gave me that layer of flavour I never knew I needed in hummus. The whipped ricotta was light and refreshing, and the sundries tomatoes within gave a nice tangy mouthfeel. I really thought I got lucky with my choice of dips that complemented too perfectly with the warm pita bread - that was just so soft and comforting!

Turning on the heat, the Black Garlic Pesto ($32) packed quite a punch. Flavourful and great for sharing! Think slurpy al-dente linguine well tossed in a spiced, garlicky, savoury pesto sauce amped up with hints of cheese. Really enjoyed the abundance of seafood (Mussels, plump Rock Shrimp and sweet Scallops) and the juicy burst of tanginess from the fresh sliced tomatoes.

Their famed Umami Rice ($46), as the name suggests, really delivered as well. Great for sharing (pricey but at least the portion is pretty substantial), the rice soaked in lots of great flavour from the use of shellfish bisque. Love the decadent crustacean sweetness. There was plenty of seafood too with squid, mussels, scallops and three tiger prawns in the mix. The texture of the rice was sublime too.

Spent the weekend brunching and over-ordering for two at Moxie!

Loading in the carbs, we started with the Moxie Dip Platter which came with a choice of pita, sourdough and/or Crudites. We stuck to the warm pita bread with Hummus with Black Garlic Confit, Whipped Ricotta with Sundried Tomatoes drizzled in Rosemary-Thyme Oil and Smashed Kabocha with Brown Butter. The latter being my favourite as it has a sweeter profile, it is a little chunkier in texture but the added almonds and pomegranate was lovely.
