Very cosy heartland cafe with Peranakan food.

Service is v good. Since it was our first time here, he gave us some lapis cookies on the house.

Mee Siam was very tasty. Beef rendang was well cooked, beef was tender and pulled off easily. (Also not v salty which I liked)

Coffee beans was good. Tried their ondeh ondeh ice cream as well and it’s good too.

It's hard to miss out on this alfresco cafe's signature block letter structure, located at the entrance of trendy Haji Lane. Their unexpectedly good food is what brings diners back again and again, especially for their fried seafood, hearty burgers and beautifully layered cakes. Go for the Penne Pesto Pasta ($15.90), Meatball Pasta ($16.90) and Vegetarian Pasta ($11.90). Other signature must-trys include the Fish & Chips ($15.90), and the Charcoal-grilled Juicy Beef Burger ($13.90).

If you love chocolate, be sure to cut Le Bijoux’s Belgian dark chocolate loaf ($10.50) into thin slices, if you don’t want to tip the scales. Theirs is so moist and chocolatey, you’ll want to eat the whole loaf. So either be a good neighbour and give away some, or be prepared for major temptation! : )

Visited the new Ambling Turtle at The Flow just beside Roxy Square along East Coast Road over the past weekend — the new cafe had taken over the former premises of the mattress shop that previously occupied the same unit; the menu features a limited number of Peranakan-inspired mains mostly revolving around sandwiches, as well as desserts such as waffles and bakes.

Went with the Pulled Beef Rendang Sourdough Sandwich; there is also a choice of the croissant sandwich that seems to be more popular an option for those who have seemingly visited this spot and posted on social media. The sourdough toast was decent, though given how Micro Bakery & Kitchen is located just right across the road, the sourdough just isn’t the element that i would head down to Ambling Turtle for. Coming with elements such as cucumber, lettuce, chili padi and pulled beef rendang sandwiched in between, the pulled beef rendang did carry an evident hint of the spices whilst the meat is considerably tender, though was mild in terms of spiciness — some may also find it a tad dry considering the nature of the original dish but it does seem rather fitting here since their variants comes in a form of a sandwich and that would have caused the bread to soak up too much liquid anyway. Liked how the Peranakan touch here goes all the way to the items served on the side — the Achar providing a refreshing, tangy crunch in between morsels of the sandwich to reset the taste buds.

Felt that the croissant sandwich would have been a better option than the sourdough sandwich here, considering how the butteriness and flakiness of the pastry would probably have went together with the pulled beef rendang better as compared to the sourdough toast. That being said, Ambling Turtle is a spot to be commended for its effort to incorporate the neighbourhood’s Peranakan heritage into its theme — from the decor, to the dining ware and to its food menu; something which sets it apart from other cafes in the vicinity.

Situated within CHIJMES is a cozy and minimalistic cafe. The bakes were good but the Smoked Duck Breast Focaccia was the one that stole the show, it was so yummy that I bought a second for takeaway! Coffee was good and the staff were all really friendly & engaging. Great place for an afternoon tea (coffee) break!

Just imagine this: you’ve got Brotherbird’s already amazing croissant dough, crispy, buttery, and super flaky, split in half then filled with a fabulous roasted strawberry sauce, and a slab of soft, chewy, sticky mochi. Oh my lord, so so soooo good. The textural contrast for one is already a big win, and the little square of mochi’s so good I swear I could eat it on its own 🤤 I especially liked how the roasted strawberry sauce tasted like 100% real berries (say no to commercial syrups 🙅🏻‍♀️), with a super intense, caramelised, even addictive kinda candy-like sweetness, without actually hitting the range of being diabetic. It goes wonderfully with the super delicate sticky rice cake that carries a really light and natural sweetness. I understand Brotherbird’s gonna keep this in their lineup for March as well, so haul ass guys don’t let this beauty slip by you!

Clean design, awesome brownie & superb coffee & cocoa

Refreshing smoothie bowls that came with a good mix of crunchy toasted coconut flakes, granola & fresh fruit. We had the Tropicana and very berry smoothie bowl - both were nice with a clear taste of each fruit, but I preferred the berry more. Piccolo latte was smooth and nutty, with a robust coffee flavour.

Was expecting the usual waffle but pleasantly surprised with the burst of flavour and textures that came with the tried and tested combi of peanut butter & jelly. Tartness of homemade berry jam ensured that the PB was not too heavy or sweet. The crisp waffle was just nice in terms of density, while the roasted oats & sunflower seeds added crunch to the combi. One of the best waffles I’ve had.

Ordered the big breakfast and steak. Portions were huge and food was delicious. Very worth it with 1 for 1 deal. We will be back!
