Dominating close to half of the @foodrepublicsg outlets around Singapore, @fuxiangsignatures is best known for its award-winning Signature Curry Chicken which uses a total of 21 secret herbs & spices. From a small stall in a coffee shop, this homegrown brand rapidly expanded to 7 stalls islandwide. Hopefully, I’d see them opening an outlet in the west soon!

Featured are their Signature home-style dishes.

Overall, the tasting experience here was way above average, and I’d recommend this place to anyone craving for curry that is close to our hearts. If I had to pick my favourite out of the lot, it would be their Sambal Crispy Pork that was crispy yet succulent at the same time. For those who can’t take the spice well, their Emperor Cream Sauce Chicken is your best bet. You might wonder if there is salted egg in it... But in fact, no salted eggs were harmed in their recipe 😳.

Thanks Elphin for the kind invite and @fuxiangsignatures for the currylicious spread of their signature dishes!

P.S. Learning how to make chilli paste from scratch was pretty interesting 👍!

Another hidden gem in bugis! At the 3rd floor of fortune centre in a corner, this quaint tiny shop sells good and affordable Japanese food! The mentai don is just $11💕 the sashimi slices are hugeeee almost fillet like. The don is slightly small in size but the other sides are really generous in portion. The makis are really good too! ( only available after 1230) do come early to grab seats, they close early at 230 and sometimes runs out even before that🌝✨ I didn’t try their curry but I’m sure it’s great toooo;) top in my list for great and affordable jap food🤤

Kolo mee.

An Instagram post by @pengloh initiated my visit to this prawn noodles specialist.
Opened just three months ago, this casual eatery is an offshoot of “Big Eater Seafood” (a.k.a. “大食家海鲜”) with branches in Upper Changi and Jurong West. Unlike those with a full range of offerings on their menu, the more centrally-located “大食家大大大虾面” at 89 Killiney Road focuses on prawn noodles but they do have a couple of dishes (century egg minced pork porridge is one) for those who don’t take crustaceans.
After reading what Peng had to say about their soup and dry noodles, I had to order both.
Shown above is the latter, the 大食家大虾炒白米粉. Roughly translated, it means “Signature Big Prawns With White Bee Hoon”. I think it is a bit of a misnomer because the insanely tasty gravy colours the noodles an appetising reddish-brown.
Completely unlike the other “white bee hoon” I have had, this boasts of “wok hei”, a gloriously umami, slightly thick sauce that has its rich flavour intensified by loads of fried pork lard and fresh “khng chye” (can someone please enlighten me on its English name?). Besides large prawns, the noodles are fried with slices of lean pork too.
Although the menu is made up of only portions in one size meant for individuals, I found both our orders to be very generous. Those of you with a small appetite can share a serving and maybe add on a side dish like the Salted Egg Chicken or Shrimp Prawn Roll ($5.80 each).

This is the bomb! I like how the exterior is a bit crispy but still doughy. The salted egg custard is overflowing as you break the bun — salted egg porn alert! The custard could have been smoother, but can't complain for the quite affordable price tag. It's a must-order!

one of the BEST egg tarts in sg goes to these lil babies; it’s kinda sad they r underrated bc of all the popular brands out there like taicheong (which r absolutely delicious too ofc)

a buttery, flaky pastry which encompasses a light and wobbly custard center!! it’s super smooth and soft, which goes rly well with the crisp and crumbly texture of the crust!! the aroma and flavourful of this gets me all the time, i literally order 3 just for myself 🤤

Located at Blk 416, Bedok North Ave 2, Singapore 460416. Opens 10am-6.45pm and close on Friday. A very old and traditional shop that sells heavenly fragrant breads and cakes! Their star product is their Curry Bun which cost $1.70 each and is freshly out for sell from 12.55-2.30pm! Their bread has an unique flavourful butter smell at any point of time regardless it’s hot or the next day.. The kind of smell whereby it’s not found in any other bread out there! Besides, it’s stuffed fully with curry paste, huge chunk of potatoes and even a couple pieces of chicken!! You should try them yourself as it’s One of the BEST Curry Bun out there! •

Timings of each bread, cakes:
🍞11am - custard cream puff & muffin 🥧11.45am - egg cupcake 🍞12.55 - 2.30pm - curry, hae bee hiam, coconut bun
🍰 1.15pm - Banana Cake
🍞4pm - Milk, Corn & Raisin bread
🥖5pm - French Loaf, Baguette 🎂 6pm - Pandan chiffon, butter & fruit cake

$20 for this portion of half braised duck, added tofu and egg. Both skin and meat is tender and really seasoned with the right amount of sauce. Tofu is soft too. Chilli is sour with vinegar. Shiok.

Mouthful and mouthful of savoury maggie noodles, bits of bite size mutton is scattered inside. The chilli sauce over the cucumber on the side matches the noodles nicely. Fried egg simply completes the meal.

Visually unimpressive because it came piping hot and the Hokkaido fresh cream were all crazily melting in progress.

Still can’t compare to what I had in Japan but close enough - I really liked how fluffy and eggy it was! Incredibly light, we shared this (4 layers) but the mother and I agreed that we probably can finish a stack of 4 alone.

Everything is made upon order so it’s a rather long wait for this - we waited for almost half an hour - and finished it within 10 mins. 😂

Re-opened after an 8-year hiatus, @LorMeeGHS that had been around since 1989 is back! Using family recipe passed down from the previous generation, they serve bowls of lor mee the traditional way.

Each bowl of lor mee (from $4) is accompanied with slices of braised pork belly, half portion braised egg, bean sprouts, parsley, freshly ground garlic, vinegar and chilli paste. However, the yellow flat noodle with thick starchy gravy was topped off with generous chunks of fried sea bream. An ingredient which I understand that had been used in their recipe since ages ago!
