Pleasantly surprised at the tastiness of this speedy bowl of sukiyaki gyudon. The tender beef is cooked to order and obvs I added an onsen egg. A great stop for a quick bite!

Classic akamaru shinaji of porky tonkotsu broth, miso and garlic oil. Served with chashu, wood ear and shallots. Obviously I had to get the tamago version because, everything is better with an egg.

This comes with a chicken leg. No further information is needed. Also, additional ajitama for $2.

I love an uni bowl. 🀀 The Chef starts off by mixing 2 mystery sauces with 2 types of sea urchin of different grades together, the rice is then mixed into this so that every grain is coated in uni goodness. Then it is served, topped with ikura, more uni and a dollop of wasabi. Get in my belly now!

Was lucky to snap up a reservation at Ryo just 4 days ahead (I hear you typically need to call way in advance). We went for the full 18-course sea urchin... cos we can't do without the uni. Aside from the 12 pieces of super fresh sushi, there was also edamame, a truffled onsen tamago, hijiki seaweed salad, a sea urchin ikura don, a crab hand roll and onion soup. My favourite sushi pieces were the shima aji (horse mackerel) with ?yuzu and the chutoro with shoyu foam.

Really well worth the price for the quality of ingredients used. I'd come back in a heartbeat!

No explanation needed, really. This was divine. I was genuinely sad when this dish ended.

This, surprisingly, was one of my favourite items served as part of the Hagi menu. This beautifully grilled king salmon and micro tomatoes was exquisite. I wouldn't say salmon is my favourite fish, but this was prepared in a way that it tasted smoked (though it wasn't) - it was rich and salty. Apparently this is done so that it pairs well with sake. 🀀

I don't even know where to begin. I'm not usually one to splurge (this much) on lunch but the occasion called for it. Let's just say, it was money well spent. The attention to detail, the precision in preparation and the quality of every ingredient made for sure a great dining experience. 😍

Unagi Chahan ($12)
My favourite of the lot. The Japanese rice was nicely seasoned and fried with unagi pieces - there was a distinct wokhei to this fried rice and polished off this plate quite quickly.

Sukiyaki ($18.50)
The broth was a little salty for my liking, otherwise it was ok. The slices of beef were tender, there was a good variety of veggies and tofu.

Salmon Mentai Aburi Maki Roll ($18.80)
Quite nice. You get 8 pieces but they were a little on the smaller side.

Hamachi Kama-shio ($16.80)
Super tasty and satisfying to clean off this yellowtail collar. But again, not a very generous piece.

I think overall food is good. I'd come back.

A limited edition okonomiyaki burger? Yes please. I love MOS Burger. And true to everything MOS does, this was delicious and a great snack. The seafood patty was loaded with squidy seafood, sweet potato and... other things. No idea, I just ate it. Also, there is an egg. Everything is made better with an egg. I was actually sad when this burger was coming to its end.

If you're super hungry, you might want to get two of these (or the rice burger version) because they are tiny.

The salmon mentai was delishhh. You only get five slices of aburi-ed salmon mentai on a heap of warm udon noodles. The mentai sauce makes for a nice salty dressing for the noodles - though we ran out of salmon way before we ran out of noodles. I'd still have this again though. ☺️

Super crisp and tender panko breaded pork loin, Japanese curry, rice and endless cabbage. So simple, so tasty.

I think there are very few things that a bowl of soup cannot fix. That, or gin.
