Favourite piece awarded to the unassuming eggplant! Lightly caramelized from the frying yet manages to its natural sweetness even with the fish paste sandwiched in between. Most comforting soup base which I thoroughly enjoyed with their housemade chilli that packs a punch.

Our go-to for umami beehoon laced through a saucy crab broth. Double the happiness with their punchy Belachan.
Coffeeshop Tze Char that slings out restaurant standard food.
If you like your meats, order the deep fried Pork Knuckle too!

I've been pushing aside all things related to the whole 'salted egg lava croissant' trend, somehow these Salted Egg Potato Chips managed to make their way to me. Though on the oily side, these chips were a glorious flavourful buttery umami wonder, savoury and sweet at the same time (no thanks to MSG), it's tough to stop your fingers from inching towards the bottle once you've started. Would love to check out their HK cafe for supper one of these nights, so feel free to drop me some recommendations!
One of their Chefs' recommendations, crispy fish skins gently coated in a thin film of salted egg sauce. Though the salted egg wasn't pronounced till the last few pieces (probably cause the sauce collects at the bottom), it's generally addictive.
On a side note, the service here's definitely top notch, the wait staff are polite, attentive, great place for a quite meal or even for upcoming CNY get-togethers 🍊🎊

The Liu-Sha trend seems to be making a strong comeback in recent salted-egg-croissants, and now, this. Gold lava of sandy salted egg held within a layer of glutinous purple sweet potato paste (mochi textured if you will), deep fried till the outer shell becomes so accurately crispy. This ingenious creation had me almost in tears after my first bite.
You'd never had guessed that here in the heart of Bugis, quietly lies the best darned salted egg yolk dessert. Ever!!

The other impressive soup-based prawn noodles (apart from my favourite one at siglap). So much similarities between the two, each with their own specialty.
Strong broth made of prawns and pork bones, pork ribs were gelatinous and fork tender. No kuay teow sold here, so I opted for thick white bee hoon instead, which was equally satisfying. The meal's not complete if you don't order the "ngoh hiang" (background)!

Prawn noodles' best accompaniments; vibrant assortment of fried snacks and surimi derivatives all served piping hot from the fryer. Comes with a side of pink cornstarchy-egg sweet sauce and (my personal fave) sweet chilli sauce with sesame seeds and chopped herbs, these crispy nuggets of flavour won't have you stop at one!

Tucked in the east at Frankel Avenue, one of my favourite casual restaurants around that offer a good balance of local and Peranakan dishes.
Their portion sizes of food items are pretty large for what they're charging. My Chilli Bee Hoon was packed with loads of sprouts, sliced fish cake, shreds of chicken, sotong tentacles and a couple of peeled prawns. Though there's chunks of egg fried within the Bee Hoon, I'll always request for an additional fried egg on the top. Cause, let's be honest, who could resist a little bit of egg-porn?
