Im always elated with a good hawker find, more so if they're a #hiddengem. Five pieces of golden battered fried fish that sits on noodles of your choice drenched in gloopy Lor Zhup, beansprouts and half a boiled egg. Go crazy with the accompaniments like pungent chopped garlic, spicy chilli paste and vinegar which are free-for-all on the side; there's nothing quite like Lor Mee loaded with these intensely flavoured ammunition. Add on extra fried fish for just a dollar, it's a sure steal.

Midnight small talks over countless outrageously spicy, tiny bowls of beef/pork noodles in various broths + pork crackling + pork lardons. 1.9bucks for a bowl you'll gobble down in 2 mouthfuls, but be ready to get hit with spices and flavour bombs. Go easy on the spice level, they do pack quite a punch! This little joint opens daily 11am-5am (yes! you read that right, up to the wee hours in the morning). Keep an eye out for their new menu item coming up next month!
You'd never guess this local gem tucked in the basement of our award-winning Terminal 3 airport, I present you one of the best Bak Chor Mee in town, with a good kick of spiciness, slightly vinegary, generous amounts of minced pork and a large handful of pork lard. An affordable, immensely satisfying alternative before your next trip out!
The other impressive soup-based prawn noodles (apart from my favourite one at siglap). So much similarities between the two, each with their own specialty.
Strong broth made of prawns and pork bones, pork ribs were gelatinous and fork tender. No kuay teow sold here, so I opted for thick white bee hoon instead, which was equally satisfying. The meal's not complete if you don't order the "ngoh hiang" (background)!

Rice noodles, slices of beef, pork and beansprouts sitting in that rich broth made of beef and pork bones with a slight hint of lemongrass and Vietnamese coriander. Vietnamese comfort food at its best, definitely a favourite (and a rare one too) as those gems within Joo Chiat packed with authentic tasty Vietnamese fare.

Pontian-styled wanton noodles, the kind with black sauce, served with a couple of fried wantons, sliced char siew and a bowl of soup with another 2 wanton pieces. The fried chicken karrage is an additional item that we added on for 2 bucks, worth every penny! They even have a side station for Chillies (red/green) to cater to us Chilli-addicted folks.
The fried wantons were so addictive we ordered ourselves another bowl which was wiped out in a couple of minutes.
4.5bucks/serving + 2bucks/fried chicken
6bucks/bowl of fried wanton. #FTrecommends
