What a glorious sight - a mountain of fries topped by what looks to be blowtorched cheese-capped peaks of piquant beef chilli. You won't want to share this with anyone.
Let me see.... multiple juicy slices of tender, flavourful roast beef grilled with soft onions... tangy coleslaw... fresh crunchy watercress... all piled on to a pillow of soft bread that's been slathered with housemade butter and grain mustard... Nope, there's absolutely nothing I can fault about this here sandwich. So please excuse me while I stuff my face 😋😋😁
Comes in 3 level of spicy sauce - mild, medium & suicide. The waitress actually sniggered when we ordered the mild one. But we certainly didn't regret it because it was some hot stuff. They don't serve plain water so you either get $2 bottled water or something on their drinks menu, think twice if you want to up the spiciness! The taste of cheese/ sour cream is really strong which is quite unique. Then comes the choking fiery sensation. Haha it's not that bad la, but my friend who can't really take spicy food gave up eating after one piece. The chicken meat itself felt a bit under seasoned but was super juicy!
There are only a handful of places that will make me revisit them time and time again - Tarte By Cheryl Koh is one of them. In one of my previous posts, I mentioned that there was one tart that totally blew my mind away and stole the show. Today, I shall reveal it and it's none other than the Cherry Tart ($9). Before that, I was not really a cherry person and would avoid all forms of cherry-related products as most felt artificial (those used in iced jelly) or tastes like medicine (cherry drinks). It was a bittersweet moment as when we were queuing up, the customer in front of us bought the prettiest looking tart over the countertop and it happened to be the last piece. Never one to give up easily, we enquired with the friendly staff and they told us that we might have to wait for a bit because they are in the midst of preparing another flavours. We waited patiently for it and was rewarded with a fresh batch of Cherry Tart, which has Spanish cherries on a light vanilla cream. To me, it was an unexpected order and the Cherry Tart won with a landslide victory.

Opened by the man behind Immanuel French Kitchen, chef-owner Immanuel Tee's newest stall focuses on charcoal-grilled food in a casual kopitiam setting. By The Fire is situated in Alibabar along East Coast road, and dishes out unconventional fare like Scotch Eggs ($6.90). The Squid Ink Pasta ($12.90) is delightfully umami with sea urchin cream, topped with bonito flakes and chopped scallions. With no GST or service charge, this stall is one to look out for!
