Pastries & Desserts
Chendol or Cendol is an iced sweet dessert that contains droplets of worm-like green rice flour jelly, coconut milk and palm sugar syrup. It is commonly found in Southeast Asia including Indonesia and Singapore. It reminded me of my childhood when my mother used to make her own cendol, with pandan for natural flavouring and daun suji for natural green colour commonly used in Indonesia. In Indonesia, they sometimes add jackfruit and sometimes tape (fermented cassava) into it. This stall located at Old Airport Road Hawker Centre serves classic one, one with red bean and the one with XO durian purƩe. Greedy me asked if i can have added red bean to the durian one. She said: sure, it will be $3.50! Perfecto! I asked for another spoon of coconut milk, which i was happy about. I really like the fact that the texture of the cendol itself are soft (which i prefer) as sometimes it could be too starchy and hard. And they are not neon green which i sometimes cringe of and stay away from! And for a durian addict like me, the fact that it has durian, yes.. absolutely recommended!
After reading a review of Chalk Farmās kueh salat, i couldnāt resist to stop by and bought their Kueh Salat. For those who donāt know Kueh Salat, it is a peranakan sweet snack/dessert with sticky rice as base and the classic one is with coconut pandan custard. Chalk Farm sells the classic Pandan, Gula Melaka version and Durian Kueh Salat with MSW durian. I tasted the Classic Kueh Salat, the pandan custard was so creamy melt in your mouth soft. But i have to specially mention their Gula Melaka Kueh Salat, the sticky rice is so soft with hint of black sticky rice flavour which is mixed in, and the gula melaka custard is to die for!
Only yesterday i saw a video of someone making coco cream from frozen young coconut flesh! just like the (ba)nana ice cream.. and voila! Today i found Froco, Frozen Coconut! Just as the young boy handed me the sample i was intrigued! He claimed it is made from Thai young coconut flesh and only has about 1% of diary.. And yes, that smooth silky refreshing coconut texture ans taste got me hooked! I bought the short one for $3.80, i was imagining atap seed would go well as a topping, and unfortunately they don't have it, however the jackfruit topping i had instead didn't dissapoint me (additional $0.80) , the tropical flavours compliment each other really well and i really like the jackfruit crunchy flesh! I prefer this over froyo, anytime! šš¼
Could not decide between the two flavours i had both!! Apparently the flavours blend excellently well together, even the staff admitted it's her favourite! Super greedy me had chestnut puree and bailey's soaked chestnut bits as toppings! The best i've had so far in Singapore! It's a shame the counter has no tables and chairs to sit as it is located in a small corner of Icon Village. However, it will not hold me from coming back there in the future as i'm yet to try the matha one, very soon! š¦šµ Btw, goma (black sesame) is the mystery's flavour this week, go get it before it changes in few days!
Panfried honey caramelized banana, salted dark chocolate, peanuts with chocolate ice cream. Unique crispy side eggy pancakes pancakes originally from Germany but made famous in USA.
Craved for a sweet chocolately dessert and came accross this one oh-so-sinful indulgence. Tiong Bahru Bakery has always manage to delight me with their delicious pastries and dessert and sure enough this one is another mind blowing piece. The lava cake has a chopped nuts base layer which gives a nice crunchy texture, while the soft chocolate lava cake that oozes out when you break the centre really is sensational. And of course paired with their good coffee. Such a perfect pair!
Currently obsessed with this sinful dessert: one of a kind ice cream sandwiches made by icecreamcookieco.com, i have to give credit to the cookies which are goeey and very tasty, sandwiching gourmet homemade ice cream. Extremely smitten with the choco hazelnut one! The peppermint is also good. Will try the other ones soon. Online order $5 per piece, but i bought from a reseller for $8 per piece. Quite steep but totally worth every penny. My indulgence for my post work lunch earlier today.
Dark chocolate croissant with berries filling, what a great combination of flavours all together. With the creme topping before baked, similar to almond croissant, resulted of the lacking of crunchy texture, but still oh so very good! šš¼š
The best chocolate souffle in Singapore! Flavourful chocolate souffle, the server cut open the center and poured in cream, chocolate ice cream and chocolate sauce all together. So sinful yet heavenly!
Despite my recent eat-clean regime, this morning i decided to indulge in a sinful delicious breakfast. The apple slices go well together in that layers of buttery pastry, i sprinkled it with extra cinnamon powder. Voila! Such a Christmasy brekkie! šš š perfect with a cup of black coffee, no regrets!
Sea coconut slices on top of jelly and shaved ice, the use of kaffir lime instrad of calamansi really makes it unusually nice. One of my favourite local desserts!
