Zi char from Old Place Seafood Taiwan Porridge (now located at 59 Joo Chiat Place) - dishes are super affordable, and each plate is served at lightning speed directly from the kitchen to your table. Pictured is the fried pork, which is definitely one of the must-haves at this place! Super tender, with a good amount of fat that makes each bite super addictive. Other highlights include their chai poh omelette and har cheong gai!
Swooped directly from the wok to our table, these piping hot boneless slabs of pork had been deep-fried till crunchy before being tossed in a grainy salted egg yolk sauce.
I was especially excited by the incorporation of sliced chilli padi and little curls of crisped curry leaves to impart extra kick and aroma.
There has been a change in management at this "zi char" stall located inside the corner coffeeshop at 59 Joo Chiat Place. Now called "Old Place Seafood Taiwan Porridge", it's where I came across the cutest "egg fuyong" ever.
This little pouf of a vegetarian omelette, which had small pieces of mock "char siew", carrots and white onions within, was ideal for 2 people. But I could have easily finished it on my own.
