The original store, Jian Bo HQ.

With many outlets sprouting around SG, at shopping malls etc, Jian Bo at Tiong Bahru is the original location where it first opened a just over a decade after World War 2.

The Chee Kueh and cai po here is damn good la, everytime I hungry after a meal here at TBM, I will surely go over to get some chee kueh.

But damn sinful man, and it's very oily, keep imagine my heart get coated in oil after each bite.

Now helmed by 3rd generation owner Eric Ang, since being established in 1958, this is the most expensive version, but also the most accessible, with many outlets across Singapore.
.
While centrally produced, their rice cakes are wobbly soft (softer than most) pleasant with a mild grainy sweet flavour.
.
Their preserved daikon radish is chunky and crunchy, stewed in vegetable oil, with enticing vegetal sweet salty savoury flavour.
.
The sambal belachan is thick but not too spicy, being more savoury sweet with just a mild heat.
.
They also sell other items, and while there's usually a queue, it moves quite briskly.

Tried once in the Ghim Moh Market and it didn't resonate with me. Decided to give this branch a try in Tiong Bahru, and yet, it's even disappointing. There are definitely better chee kuehs out there (e.g. bedok chee kueh). Can totally feel that this chee kueh is firmer and machine made. The Chye Poh is less tasier and very oily. The CK is just swimming in oil on my plate.

Will give it a chance if they improve their recipe but for now, I will prefer bedok chee kueh instead.

Really oily but really satisfying. Texture was good, and caipor has just the right amount of saltiness. Chilli was not too spicy as well. But the auntie is quite fierce.

5 pcs for $2.80
Also sold in 8 pcs and 10 pcs

It's good, the texture of the kueh is good, not too hard and not too soft. The saltiness of the caipor was also just nice.

Special mention to the chilli which accentuated the taste of the dish.

Only thing is the selling lady wasn't very nice when I asked for extra fork. She took it and just threw it on the tray 😕

Closing earlier at 8pm nowadays due to reduced crowds

Super smooth Kueh, with flavourful chye Poh and a superb sambal. The only complaint is that it's difficult to eat w the sticks haha

PS yes it's very oily tho
