Yusheng or “Lo Hei” is a big affair for Singaporeans and Malaysians alike during Lunar New Year periods, and Ichiban Boshi (and Ichiban Sushi) will throw into the celebration mood their Yusheng series.

“Celebration” (S$33.80) was just good enough for 2 to 3 persons, and I liked their Yuzu sauce, which substitutes the conventional sour plum sauce, because it tasted lighter with a bit of a Japanese influence to the local dish. What more could you ask for when thick slices of Norwegian Salmon Sashimi tops the box as though it was the star on top of a Christmas tree?

For those who love freebies, a set of red packets would await you with every order of their prosperity Yusheng.

Here’s something that tasted less heavy with some sour notes of Japanese plum sauce. The Kurobuta Ume Chasoba (S$15.90) was a pretty healthy noodle dish that had a more refreshing than heavy-tasting profile as compared to those that I would usually eat. And with those slices of lean black pork, this one would be good for dinner.

Served piping hot and crunchy was the Kyoto style fried pork loin with mentaiko. The cod roe tartar sauce was thick and so shiok with a kick of spice (such a sucker for mentaiko 🤪). The Katsu set one came with the pork loin, green tea noodles, egg crepe, assorted sashimi, chawanmushi, miso soup and fruits. Talk about a steal!

Me thinks I may have found a new favourite at Ichiban Boshi 😍 Arranged neatly on the rice are melt-in-the-mouth goose liver and tender slices of premium beef that have been pan-fried in sweet teriyaki sauce. Savoury "mentaiko" (spicy cod roe) mayo is squiggled all over the top, dialing up the level of "umami-ness" in the dish exponentially. If you're looking for a value-for-money rice bowl set with meat, this is hard to beat.

Yummy combination! The curry udon with poached egg is really yummy!!

I’m in love with the juicy and tender beef. The potato salad at the side makes it refreshing too!
