Items were served one by one slowly. Had to ask for the tongs, soup and rice.
Although it’s a charcoal stove, one could adjust the heat by the side.
Actually my first time trying out Japanese BBQ and it is really not bad! Gyu-Kaku is best known for their buffets, but we got their lunch sets instead. The most premium you can go for is their Japanese Wagyu set ($48), which consists of 11 pieces of Wagyu of different cuts. I must say, the marbling is beautiful. After grilling them to medium rare and pairing it with some salt, the glistening pieces of meat are so tender, succulent and flavourful. There's so much intramuscular fat it's so tasty!
If you are looking for more value for money options, they do have the Kurobuta and Karubi & Harami set ($25 each) that is also pretty good! For the Kurobuta set I really enjoyed the Jowl pieces, as they were really fatty and satisfying!
However I must say I wasn't very full so perhaps I might go for the buffet!

Had higher expectations after reading the great reviews, but had to say I was quite disappointed with this wagyu beef don... Not sure how one messed up the ultimate combination of beef with onsen egg over rice, but somehow it happened for this dish... 😥😥 The onsen egg was overdone and the yolk was zero runny so it couldn’t be mixed in well with the rice to make it less dry. The wagyu beef was just shredded thin slices of shabu-quality beef that leaves much more to be desired. All sets come with a sesame salad, kimchi and miso soup, but much better beef bowls out there at this price point so I would give this a pass ☹️☹️
Cheapest buffet was $64.90++ which is quite pricey But it does include quite a lot of variety such as Wagyu beef , normal cuts of beef, black pork, chicken, lamb, prawn, scallop etc. It also includes various appetizers such as kimchi, edamame, cucumber, salads etc.
Service was quite fast and also the meat were cooked on charcoal which made it have a good char! Highly recommend you just eat your money worth with the Wagyu beef cuts and the tiger prawn and definitely don’t waste your stomach space on the carbohydrate dishes!
End of your meal with a few options of gelato such as mango, chocolate, matcha, vanilla etc. Really good gelato that comes in a pre-packaged cup. Definitely try the matcha and chocolate as it’s rich and not just your cheap cup of ice cream.
Overall, unless you’re a big eater if not the price is quite expensive for just dinner.
Keep calm and have more MEAT! On Wednesdays, Gyu-Kaku (@GyukakuSingapore) serves EXTRA 30% of meat and rice for all rice bowls during weekday lunch. Best known for its barbeque beef, I instinctively went for the BBQ Beef Don ($14). Those large slices of beef are well-marinated in Japanese sweet-savoury soy sauce and grilled to perfection, imagine every bite of that tender beef coated with caramelized sauce. 😋
