The mee pok here is ok, but nothing to scream about - sauce is not very pungent, and they don’t add lard!! Not very healthy but so delicious lah.
I had not eaten this for almost a year and was delighted that it was still as good as before, if not better. More lard than I remembered, which could only be a good thing. The vinegar and chili were on point, making the gravy sour and spicy. Definitely my kinda BCM. More gravy than last time, boosting the flavors even more. Oooh the egg was amazing. Soft lava yolk that was slightly salty with soy sauce. Good amt of minced meat with springy Mee pok. One of my fav BCM.
A really good bowl of mee pok with spot on flavours in their use and proportion of chili, vinegar and lard. I can really do without the yakitori skewer and onsen egg - not that they are not good. But let's preserve the authentic flavours of a good old bak chor mee, or at least the teochew origins. Fish maw and abalone are not bad ideas, the latter would be too close in concept as Ah Lam's 阿南鮑魚麵. In fact Guan uses the same shredded chili in soy which makes it come close to Lam's flavours.
Seems like ramen egg with bak chor mee is in the trend right now. Anyways, the Mee Pok was really different from the usual Mee Pok that I have tried. It texture was a little harder with uneven thickness that made itself stood out from the rest of its competitors. It’s minced poor was also slightly over cooked for a tougher texture to chew on. There are really too many bak chor mee to try out these days...
Ok lah, not just because of the name, but the texture of the noodle is on fleek every single time. Great bite and the right amount of chilli and vinegar to coat each strand. Ok, that's all.
Saw this on burpple and I knew I had to try. Very glad that it did not disappoint with Al Dente noodles, runny eggs (the egg yolk 💯) and even the Chicken was tender! There was nothing to complaint about except the fishball which was overcooked that I would gladly do without!
