@gochiso.shokudo's mille feuille cheese tonkatsu is crispy outside and tender on the inside complemented by the cheese added to it. The set was filling and everything was.good but I would have liked more cheese in the tonkatsu 😅
Decided not to go for the usual Bellota Loin Katsu set at Gochi-So Shokudo today and tried the pork tenderloin katsu set instead. The restaurant's staff recommended this set as the tenderloin is supposed to be leaner and there is thus a noticeable difference from the bellota loin, which comes with an additional layer of fat at the end of each piece and is more tender. Although the staff was right about the texture (slightly tough and no fatty portion), the pork cutlet tasted rather bland today and it was as if the cutlet was cooked without any salt. Thankfully, the outer layer was still really crispy, otherwise it would have been a pretty disappointing lunch.
Furthermore, the tenderloin set costs $18++, which is more expensive than the bellota loin set. I would surely go for the bellota in future. 😅
For only $14++, you get a pretty generous serving of rice with Japanese curry, and six pieces of Gochi-So-Shokudo's bellota loin katsu! The Japanese curry was pretty standard, although it was served piping hot so you do want to be careful before eating it.
The highlight was the restaurant's bellota loin katsu but to be honest, we thought it was nicer when we order the tonkatsu set during our previous visit. While the exterior of the pork cutlet was really crispy, the inside was pretty tough today. This was quite a marked difference from our previous meal here, where the insides of the pork cutlet were pretty tender (and fatty too ☺️). I guess the restaurant can be slightly inconsistent with it's pork katsu but it was nevertheless a good lunch for a rainy day!
The set comes up rice, miso soup, a huge serving or salad, as well as the loin katsu! The pork cutlet was really crispy on the outside, although I felt the inside was less fatty and a lot tougher compared to those served at many other outlets (e.g., Ma Maison and Imakatsu). Nonetheless the dish was only $17.80+, which is noticeably cheaper than comparable dishes served at other restaurants.
Tried this during their opening promo. I was really excited to try their Iberico Bellota as @gochiso_shokudo branded it as “wagyu” of pork.
After a long queue, we finally got seated and I was anticipating the warm, tender and melt-in-the-mouth deep fried pork katsu. However, I was disappointed beyond words!!
To get started, the katsu wasn’t even warm when served. It’s cold. Most importantly, the meat was really tough and nowhere near “melt-in-your-mouth texture” as branded. It’s was rather tough to chew.
On the upside, the katsu was of suitable thickness and the exterior were crisp and goes well with the standard tonkatsu sauce and ground sesame powder.
