Stall owners were an elderly couple, cooking their Chwee Kueh over charcoal smoke.
Chee kueh was good.
Cai po was sweet flavoured type
If you have never been to Ghim Moh Hawker Center, this is one of the stalls you need to try! I enjoyed the pillowy soft steamed rice kueh, and unlike most places where the cai poh is sweeter and oilier, their cai poh has a pronounced savory flavor while slightly less greasy. That said, I know the cai poh is supposed to be “kiam pang” (咸香/fragrant & salty) la, but why the portion so “kiam siap” though?😆 I guess too much of the salty cai poh might be overpowering but it still doesn’t quite justify the price hike over the years (minimum portion cost $2.40 now)..
Although the service from the elderly couple is lukewarm at best, at least their handmade chwee kueh is legit good.
The incredibly soft and smooth steamed rice cake topped with distinctively fragrant, saltier-savoury preserved radish cooked in pork lard is wonderful!

Founded in 1959 by Mr Lee San Ba, they remain among the few artisanal stalls that hand-make the chwee kueh, having done so for over 60 years.
.
Also, their rendition is the tiniest, cutest version around.
.
Steamed on racks which can hold over a thousand pieces, the rice cake is smooth and soft and moist, yielding easily with grainy sweet flavour.
.
Their preserved daikon radish is chunky, stewed with garlic and pork lard, and is juicy and crunchy. Has robust vegetal salty savoury flavour, more pronounced than elsewhere.
.
Because of its intensity and relative lack of sweet notes, only a small amount is lifted from the claypot warmer, for each serving. Paired with a sambal belachan that is salty spicy in taste.

Can they be more generous with the Chai Po (preserved radish)? In order to fully enjoy the chwee kueh with chai po, I have to sacrifice 1 piece without chai po..

Tried the famous chwee kueh at Ghim Moh Food Centre yesterday as well; and i have mixed feelings. While the kuehs are soft and sticky (they still handmade the kuehs every single day), i found the cai por to be too salty (but that’s just because i prefer my cai por sweet). That said, they still have their loyal fans but i still personally prefer the Tiong Bahru or Bedok ones.
