More Reviews of good food at Lor 9 Beef Kway Teow

Finally trying out the legendary Lorong 9 Famous Beef Kway Teow food!

I have actually been wanting to try this for the longest time (urm 20 years? LOL)! But I was not sure earlier if they had non-beef hor fan! Since most of google map photos then (super many years ago) mainly featured their beef hor fan only!

But yes, there is NON BEEF OPTIONS! You can get the black bean sauce hor fan in sliced fish or seafood option too! All for $8 per plate!

The black bean sauce has alot of spicy red chilli padi too, so it was quite spicy! But 10/10 shiok! Will recommend all to try out this tze char stall!

They also have dried kway teow version! Will be back to try this next time!

$10 (small)

$14 (for 2 pax)
Has a slight charred taste, but nothing fantastic

Back in old days, people would come here for their famous beef horfun. Over the years, it seems like getting lesser and lesser supports; with many people saying their consistency has fallen.

Came on weekend lunch time, and surprisingly I’m the only customer in the shop; with all the seats are left empty.

The price also increased throughout the years, with the smallest plate priced at $8 now. I would say the portion is definitely smaller as compared to the past (based on those photos I found online).

Because I never been here before, so I couldn’t compare the taste with their past. But it is still taste wok hey enough for me. Their beef slices are tender and drenched in thick gravy. But I felt it taste a bit too salty for me.

They say this is michelin recommended 💪

Definitely smooth and slurp worthy in it's black bean sauce glory that isn't too salty. However it's missing that much craved for strong wokhey taste. Beef is soft and they gave us alot too. ($12 goes well for two people)

We ordered the luohan veg, which surprised us because it's $14.

Overall, a hearty meal in the heart of bustling geylang.

Came here to try their famous beef hor fun. The beef is tender and succulent, but the sauce was too salty.

I’ve been meaning to try this famous beef kway teow for really long, and I finally found myself in the area for supper. The broth was really rich and packed with flavour, and the kway teow had a decent wok hei taste. The beef slices were incredibly tender as well, and served to us in a generous portion. My only gripe is that the prices are pretty steep (we paid $14 for a medium plate) and the area isn’t very clean or comfortable to sit around (think: cockroaches running around)

Beef Horfun, $12. Craving for some mouth-watering beef horfan! Love their fragrantly horfan that’s stir-fried to perfection with a hint of wok-hei taste~. Gravy is a lil thick with black bean and a little spiciness to it. Just a simple plate of beef horfan but it’s so flavorful and satisfying! .

Feat their $14 serving size. Enough for 2 pax.
Nice portion of beef alongside the Horfun.
Hor fun was firm and nicely cooked but I could do with a bit more wok hei taste. 🤪

Sauce was not too salty and went well w the beef and hor fun, could do with abit more black beans and vegetables.

Overall a pretty good plate of beef hor fun!

Beef Horfun, $7. Smooth and silky horfun with savoury thick gravy. They are very generous in their portion including their beef slices, they are huge and tender! It’s one of our favourite place for beef horfun as it is available in late nights too! 😋 .

Not sure why is it famous or what is special about it. Found the hor fun to be normal..

PRICE:
Beef Horfun -- Says $7 on the menu for the small portion of beef horfun but auntie insisted to make it an $8 portion for us. Is it really worth the $1 difference? Probably not.

Sambal potato leaves -- $8

Canned drink -- $1.60

WAITING TIME: Got a table immediately. Food was served around after 5 minutes.

Beef was tender (albeit a little too tender that it tastes like it has too much tenderizer). Serving was for one person and cost $8. Taste is good but not particularly outstanding and wait was pretty Long even when there wasn’t really a lot of tables around.

Beef slices were tender and generously marinated. Noodles are best eaten when smeared with and softened by the sauce. Had a very enjoyable dinner here. Ambience left much to be desired though… perhaps they could do with a few more fans?

💭 Must try

Still good but it's smaller now.

One of the better beef hor fun dishes in Singapore. The consistency of the gravy is perfect and the intensity of the pepper is just there. Also important, the wok hei is what differentiates it from other restaurants.

My only gripe would be the portion. For $22, this could barely feed four persons. It felt like a portion that was meant for two. Next time, try ordering individually.

After hearing so much about how good this was, I was a little disappointed. The good things were that the hor fun had a nice charred flavour, and the beef was quite tender. Other than that, the portion was a little small for $6, and it was served lukewarm, as if it has been sitting around for a while. Overall, I wouldn't say it's worth it because there's a lot of other beef hor fun out there that are probably comparable.

Fond childhood memories of this. The beef is definitely unnaturally soft (tenderiser!) but the gravy is slurp worthy. Used to be better - less wok hei taste now, though you can still see that the kway teow has colour to it.

Succulent beef with wok hei style kuayteow! It's been a while since I had this.

One of my old time favorites beef hor fun ($6,$12,$18) when I was a kid. Back then the amount of beef was so overwhelming I can barely see the horfun. These days the amount is lesser but still plentiful for $6 I say. Horfun slightly charred which I kinda like. You can choose to have it dry or with gravy ( I prefer with gravy). The beef slices are still as tender as ever but they have this tenderizer taste to it. You will know what I'm saying if you're a seasoned beef lover. Overall I say it's worth a visit if you're in the area. I wouldn't travel all the way there and get myself frustrated over the parking. Moreover, there are no longer any "eye candies" stationed along the side alleys ;) #Hawkerpedia
