Chin Heng Dessert (Haig Road Market)

Red Ruby here is so creamy and flavorful.

The red ruby itself is crunchy and totally goes so well with the generous amount of coconut milk.

In our hot and humid weather, we will usually opt for a cold beverage or dessert after a meal. However, I was intrigued by the stall’s Green Bean Soup with Coconut Milk ($1.50) that I went out of my norm and got this hot dessert instead. Just a little background, it was a scorching hot day and I just had my lunch inside the hawker centre, but I succumb to my curiosity and got it nonetheless. At first glance, this is definitely not your typical green bean soup as it’s thickened by the coconut milk and probably cooked with gula melaka as it comes in a brown hue. From the first sip, it instantly reminded me why sweating buckets while eating this is all worthwhile as each spoonful is not cloyingly sweet and there is a general amount of green bean and sago in it. The addition of the coconut cream adds to the richness to the overall mouthfeel which makes it so unique that other dessert stalls do not have. Definitely a must-order when you are here.
