Though I am more accustomed to having grilled pork belly when I have Korean, Bigmama’s steamed Suyuk is equally enjoyable. We were served with thinly-sliced unseasoned pork belly. The staff demonstrated how to enjoy this dish 3 ways:
✨ dip the pork in either the lemon garlic sauce (1) or black bean sauce (2) and eat it together with a strip of cucumber, or
✨ place the pork on top a pickled radish and top it with spiced bean sprouts (3)

Personally enjoyed having it the second way - the black bean sauce and the cucumber complements each other and enhances the flavor of the suyuk 👌🏻

This pancake is cooked beautifully with right amount of thickness and crisp on the edges + softness of the filling & with generous amount of chopped garlic chives and shrimps. There’s a soy sauce dipping as well, but it’s not necessary at all, as the dish is good as it is

After you have finished around 2/3 of your Dakgalbi, you can request to add kimchi fried rice, which costs around $5++ per serving. While this is a pretty cool way to make use of the remaining parts of the dakgalbi, we felt that the rice was a little too wet for our liking.

At this point, we felt that we should really have added the cheese because the relatively large portion of rice served made the dish a bit boring after a while.

The food here may not be fancy, but it's clearly prepared with heart. Start off with the Suyuk Boiled Pork Belly served with vegetables and sauces, you'll be taught how to eat it three different ways. Burppler Zoey Belle Wannabe recommends going for the Dakgalbi ($36), spicy marinated chicken with vegetables and Korean rice cakes. "What's best is that after you finish half, you can request for the staff to turn it into a fried rice." Because of limited seating, be sure to make reservations!

Found a hidden gem! 💎 First time eating something that I just can't stop even when I'm so full because.. it's just tooo goooooooood!! 🤤😋 Will highly recommend to try their signature Dakgalbi (Spicy Grilled Chicken), which is marinated chicken in homemade spicy sauce stirred fried with rice cakes and assorted vegetables. What's best is that after you finish half, you can request for the staff to turn it into a fried rice. And this is the key here, to unlock a hell of an appetite! Try it if you crave some awesome Korean home made food, they don't do deliveries because they believe that it will affect their food quality. That explains why the food was good isn't it? 😌 #bigmamakoreanrestaurant

i am always fascinated with korean side dishes and was so happy when served with 6 different side dishes.. the bibimbap is good but the banchan took the gold... the anchovies were seasoned well and is not salty just like others.. having japchae as a side is really nice... and the lotus root with the sesame sauce is really nice..

will surely come back..

Lovely side dishes

I was here for lunch on a weekday afternoon and pretty shocked to see the restaurant so empty .

Then I figured why - the main courses were a little pricey and there wasn’t an affordable set lunch option.

The Kim Chi soup set came with a pretty small pot of soup and rice and came up to be 15 dollars before taxes .

The side dishes were However pretty high in quality but don’t expect hearty refills . At most 2 rounds and perhaps that’s all .... get the hint ?

Parking is a HUGE problem here fyi. Food portion not the most worth it, but the free flow sides made up for it. HOWEVER if you’re dining during lunch/dinner hours please be prepared to be actually chased out for incoming customers LOL. I’m sorry but cannot see myself going back there. Prices also on the high side.

This bubbly cheerful auntie (seems like the owner or cook?) would come to you and recommend you mains and sides. She got us to try her lotus (direction of 3 o'clock) - it was crunchy! In frame is Kimchi Jeon with the side dishes (free I guess?) that auntie brought for us. Their meaty mains are the specialty. Most if not all food are portions for sharing.

Tried BigMama finally! It wasn't too crowded on a Thursday night and we ordered suyun and a soy bean soup for 2 people. Suyun was pretty interesting because it was steamed, which is not as oily as the usual Korean bbq. I would say BigMama wasn't mind blowing for me but the service was great and they are very generous with their sides! Will be back to try more of their other dishes. :)

Early bday celebration for the bestie, @turtelswq24 , though I'll celebrate w her again on her bday 😂

It might look like a small portion for 2 but it is definitely filling! Spicy stew with baked beans, spam, sausage, tofu, rice cake, dumplings.. Definitely warms your heart and soul. 🍴

The recommended Suyuk (pork belly) was unlike all the pork belly dishes i have ever tried. Good thing us its not oily at all! Taste was abit bland, so you got to dip it into the sauces and eat together with the crunchy cucumber sticks for a more refreshing bite! The army stew was standard with nothing much to shout out. We also order a bowl of rice wine to share. The side dishes were yummy too, with my favourite being the sesame lotus salad. Goodness it's good!!

Despite all that, the bill gave us a shock, summing up to $80+, which we thought was a bit overpriced.

A familiar pan-fried dish of marinated chicken with veggies, sweet potato, rice cake and spicy sauce. Having tried Yoogane, this Dakgalbi at Big Mama's failed to impress. The seasoning, tastiness, spicy punch and all else pales in comparison to Yoogane's. We did, however, appreciate the palatable (and refillable) side dishes such as japchae. 😄

This is the thinnest and most crispy Kimchi Pancake I've ever had. 🤓 The kimchi taste was not as strong as we wanted but we enjoyed the pancake with the sourish dipping sauce. There were very minimal pieces of prawns and squid which led us wondering why it costs a whopping $18 for "Korean-style roti prata" (quoted from my friend). 🤔

Big Mama’s specialty is Samgyupsal Suyuk which is a Korean dish of steamed pork belly. The tender meat is not oily as all extra fat is removed during the cooking, whilst maintaining its exquisite taste.

4 servings of dakgalbi please! Tender chicken chunks with cabbages, carrots, kimchi, onions and toppoki makes a wholesome hearty meal. It is served atop a portable stove which keeps it warm throughout your meal! Our dakgalbi was slightly on the watery side at the beginning of the meal, but slowly thickens as time passes. The thickened sauce was much more delectable especially with the cabbages! Korean meals are always so so satisfying like this.

This is my favorite kimchi pancake till date! It has a less than appealing appearance but it will definitely not disappoint in terms of taste. A very generous amount of kimchi (that's how KIMCHI pancake should be like!), prawns and squid held together by the batter that is fried till perfectly crispy! In fact, there isn't much batter used in the pancake which doesn't overwhelm you with a flour-like end product. We immediately knew we had to order one more!

Chicken galbi, [$18/pax, min 2 pax] we ordered for 4! Serving was reasonable but not intimidating. Taste wise, it was somewhat watery at the start but got better as we slowly got through it cause it dried up. Not too bad but I heard yoogane is better! Will find out for myself! 😁
