Love how this place serves YTF the healthy way instead of deep frying all the ingredients. Their soup is still hearty and flavourful although it looks deceivingly clear and bland.
The standard set comes with a mix of tofu, tau kee, eggplant, fish ball, tau pok, ladyβs finger, pig skin, bitter gourd, chilli, quail egg and fish cake in a clear soup base with soya beans. The deep-fried tau kee was really crunchy and addictive. Overall, It was a no-frills, simple, clean-tasting yet satisfying meal except it was a little overpriced. I also got myself a cup of refreshing sour plum drink to go along with my order γ$21.50
This old school eatery is closing soon after years of operation and long time customers will surely miss this nostalgic food in their neighbourhood. This is a simple bowl of Niang Tou Fu, wouldn't say that the ingredients taste superb as its quality is pretty similar to other YTF stall. This is a standard portion and it is actually quite pricey at 90 cents/pc. Perhaps YTF lovers would like to give it a try before the shop put up the shutters. ππ»ππ»ππ»
Although the Niang Tou Fu items may be abit more expensive than other places at $0.80 a piece, they are really very tasty. The fried tofu skin you see on top is what most people will get, because it's just so satisfying especially with their chilli sauce. One other item worth mentioning is their bringal or eggplant, that contains a beautiful savory paste and is fried once before thrown in the soup. Actually something I might crave when I am in Katong!
Favourite piece awarded to the unassuming eggplant! Lightly caramelized from the frying yet manages to its natural sweetness even with the fish paste sandwiched in between. Most comforting soup base which I thoroughly enjoyed with their housemade chilli that packs a punch.
~12bucks/pax
Iβve reviewed this before, and itβs one of my favourite places to get YTF! We got other ingredients like the chillies (which my lunch buddy loves) and the eggplant, which is delicious but not too oily. The taukee, soup and their sour plum juice is a big draw as well. Their YTF is clean tasting, but still satisfying :)
