Al Azhar opens till 2am daily, so this go to spot for late night supper, even at 1am, also damn crowded.
Al Azhar has a very extensive menu, got seafood, got Indian food, got Muslim food, got Zhi Char dishes also.
Tandoori chicken(whole chicken)- the chicken must be deformed or born without hands, because the chicken wings were missing from this order for whole chicken. The bbq taste was damn good, one of the better tandoori Chicken I ever had, honestly. But the missing chicken wings are a little worrying.
Maggie Goreng- very flavourful, seasoning taste very distinct. Quite a solid dish
Chicken Cheese Murtabak- I always have Murtabak when I visited Al Azhar. The serving is damn huge la, and the corners of this Murtabak is crispy. Chicken was rather dry though. Really struggle to finish, so huge.

Their rendition has the most pronounced use of fresh and pureed tomato, including large sliced tomato and tender sliced red onions, resulting in a thick creamy chunky gravy with vegetal sweet savoury spice flavour.
.
The boneless cream dory fish fillets are moist and flaky, absorbing the tasty flavours of the gravy. Feels like there's more vegetables though.
.
You can request more or less spicy, as the default packs a mild heat.

Sized for 2, their generous portion makes it easy to share.
.
The boneless chicken chunks have a fragrant smoky aroma, and borders dry and moist; a more generous rub of yoghurt would be good.
.
Flavour is on point, the mellow smoky salty spice notes overlaid on the meaty savoury sweet flavour of the chicken.
.
Better when paired with the mint dipping sauce for its bright herbal sweet flavour.

The curry gravy is creamy and smooth, the blend of tomato puree, yoghurt, butter, and spices (including fenugreek seeds and powdered coriander) lending bold vegetal sweet savoury milky spice notes.

They serve a good North Indian dum style rendition, where the primary flavour comes from the spice-infused basmati rice.
.
Slow cooked in a sealed pot for hours, the complex layering of spices, including cardamom and turmeric, infuse the rice, resulting in fragrant sweet grainy spice savoury flavour.
.
The fish version has boneless chunks of basa fish buried within, flaky and tender with a sharp spicy salty sweet kick from the curry gravy.
.
The mutton version has bone-in chunks of mutton buried within, chewy and tender with robust meaty savoury salty spice flavour from the curry gravy.
.
Both served with a bouncy hard boiled egg with eggy sweet notes, and a creamy raita yoghurt with crunchy cucumber and carrots with milky vegetal sweet flavour. Large enough for 2 persons.

No matter its day or night, this place is always that crowded. Not really my type of prata but looks like it's a popular option.

They've achieved some measure of success against their competitors in recent years, largely thanks to the improved quality of food with consistent taste.
.
Their version of Aloo Gobi has a rich thick curry gravy, with mild vegetal earthy sweet spice flavour, filled with chunky tender cauliflower, potatoes, and red onions, garnished with fresh coriander.
.
Great with bread or rice.

Last week I had this intense craving for butter chicken, so I got me some from Al-Azhar Eating Restaurant. Packing quite a bit of heat, their rendition of the classic Butter Chicken Masala was lusciously creamy and perfectly spiced. The tandoori chicken chunks were tender and nicely seasoned. But the highlight was truly the uberly buttery gravy. Flavourful, the sauce was thick and full of tangy sweet-savouriness. And of course, the ideal companion to mop up all the richness is a warm garlic-studded naan. Yet a tad heavy for one to finish in single seating, the masala is best shared.
This is the place for the best Malay's soto ayam in the continent. The soup is thick and very flavorful. The amount of shreded chicken is very generous. And it is only $3.50 includes bagedil. It has been my go to place for soto ayam.
One of the best places for Halal Northern Indian Food, we spent about $50 in all here for: Naan (Kashmiri, Butter and Garlic) [enjoyed the Kashmiri the most]; Cottage Cheese Spinach [Palak Paneer, reminds me of Nepal somehow]; Butter Chicken Masala [tandoori chicken was used]; Mutton Do Piazza [my fav out of the 3, sweet and flavourful, need more mini green chili!]; Aloo Gobi [curry cauliflower done to perfection] and Iced Neslo [Nescafe+Milo]! Definitely must try stuff other than satay and roti if you are there!
I seriously still always feel that al azhar’s standard is inconsistent but it no doubt provides very fuss free and quick service.
One of my all time favs is the Tom yam soup and I always order it with fish. It is very spicy and I will ask for the chili padi to be removed. It’s the sour spicy shiok kind that’s potent but will always draw you to order.
Decided to go with the satay, chicken was a little dry but I enjoyed the mutton which was quite succulent.
I loved ordering Naan when I had a chance to, preferring them over Roti Prata. And every time I visit Al-Azhar Eating Restaurant, I would not fail to order a Kashmiri Naan (S$4.50), which contained candied fruit and chopped almonds.
The uniqueness of this dish was that the Naan bread were usually doughy and dry, and the ingredients added surprises of sweetness and crunch. Not sure if anyone else would eat this with curry or butter chicken, but kids and people with sweet tooth should give this a try.
Anyone knows where else would sell Kashmiri Naan in Singapore?
Huge chunks of meat no fats charcoal grilled sumptuously good can’t stop at just 1
Love to order this to go with a garlic naan to dip up all the delicious sauce. The chicken is nice and tender, but the star of the show is the gravy!
