The brand synonymous with the Japanese bcm. Unfortunately without the hype it's rather disappointing. The noodles were dry and bland. Only the exciting chilli saved it. The soup, which came with a big prawn, was umami enough lah. The fishcake's texture was an unexpected revelation. Overall I can live without seeing this brand again.
Signature noodle comes with the option of $6/8/10, which seems slightly pricy for bcm but I enjoyed this overall. You get to choose the type of noodles, whether you want vinegar and chilli; I did think it could do with a bit more vinegar.
Noodles were qq, and I liked the sweet tasting soup that came with it. Decent portion of minced/ sliced pork, the fish dumpling (her kiao) was quite plump with just the right thickness, prawns were fresh!
It might be pretty expensive to pay $6 for a common mee pok dish. But I do think that this is pretty value for money with the abalone slices, good prawn in soup and the many other ingredients of lean meat and veggies as well. The noodles are a tad tougher than normal mee pok noodles but somehow taste more fresh and handmade. We also ordered the kailan and there was a generous amount of pork lard on it. The pork lard was 👍👍👍
PRICE: Signature Mee Pok $6 Small, +$1 to add noodles (No GST and service charge)
WAITING TIME: 14 minutes on a Thursday night. Surprisingly long cos there weren't many customers.
REMARKS:
- Can choose the type of noodles, whether you want it dry or in soup, whether you want chilli and vinegar. All these can be indicated on the order form.
- Soup is really, really flavourful!
- Prawn is big and fresh
- Noodles also come with three slices of mock abalone and one fish dumpling
Signature Mee Pok ($6) - Mee Pok with special sauce mix with chili and vinegar which I find it slightly different from other BCM. It's pretty worth the money as it comes with ingredients such as abalone slices and a huge bowl of soup that consists of prawns, minced meat and cabbage.
Side dishes are available to complete your meal. Handmade deep fried tofu ($8) was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The Prawn Balls was excellent too. Handmade dumplings soup ($6) was fresh and tasty. The highlight has to be the Dragon Deep Fried Pig Trotters ($25) It's so tender and so flavourful.
