Kimchi Stew ($10.80) comes with pork belly, enoki mushroom, tofu and kimchi in a full-bodied broth that is spicy and tangy. This is so good with rice.
The most surprising item was the BBQ Beef Skewers 西北牛肉串 ($7.80 for 5 pieces). Was expecting this to be a little tough but they were so soft and flavourful!
I love 凉皮 and Xi An Liang Pi 西安秘制凉皮 ($5.80) did not disappoint. The chewy translucent noodle was dossed in a spicy and savoury sauce and this was very appetising.
I can see why Xi An is known for being Carbs Heaven. We ordered the Oil Splashed Noodles 油泼面 Set ($13) with came with Cold King Oyster Mushroom and and a drink of our choice. The bowl is HUGE and the broad noodles (think XXXL ban mian) were cooked just right. Even though this was supposed to be splashed in oil, it was not very oily and it was pretty tasty. I definitely can’t eat this on my own as the noodles were really filling.
Spent an afternoon at King and The Pawn (great selection of boardgames btw) and the food was surprisingly good. I ordered Spicy Bacon Mushroom Aglio Olio ($19) which consists of capellini with bacon, mushrooms and cherry tomatoes. This pasta was garlicky, aromatic and very tasty - cleaned my plate in no time!
Note: They have shifted to 17 Purvis Street (#01-01)
The Chicken Breast Croissant ($9) has definitely exceeded my expectations. The chicken breast was moist, tender and well-seasoned, and it went so well with the basil mint pesto and scrambled eggs. Delightful!
We ordered Mellben Crab Meat Fried Rice ($15 small) and this was such a pleasant surprise. The golden fried rice was packed with wok hei and egg fragrance, and it came with a generous serving of crab meat. For $15, I think it was a good deal.
The French Beans with Minced Meat ($20 small) was very good - the minced meat and dried shrimps was very fragrant and the french beans were fried well - couldn’t stop eating this.
The Stir-Fried Wagyu Black Pepper Beef ($30 small) was not bad but I think it was not worth the price point.
The Crab Claypot Vermicelli Soup was still as good as I remembered it to be! The soup was full of flavour and umami, and it was so satisfying to slurp down all that goodness with the vermicelli. The crab was also big and fleshy. Although this was quite expensive ($103 for 1kg plus), thankfully the taste did not let down.
This is my first visit to French bistro restaurant Josephine and I tried their weekday Set Lunch ($34) which comprised of your choice of starter, main and dessert of the day or coffee/tea.
For starter, I picked Sea Bass Ceviche. The lime marinated raw sea bass with basil, onion and yellow pepper coulis was tangy and refreshing.
I ordered Duroc Pork Belly for main and the slow confit pork belly melted in my mouth and was absolutely delicious. Love that the skin was crispy and it went very well with the garlic crushed potatoes and piperade - couldn’t get enough of this!
Dessert of the day was a slice of Apple Pie and it was not too sweet - a delightful way to end lunch.
There is also a $28 and $44 set lunch. Although the set lunch was pricey, the food was really good - enjoyed this thoroughly!
The Chicken Chop Rice ($12.90) comprises of fried chicken cutlet, braised pork, cabbage, preserved vegetables, broccoli, braised egg and rice. The chicken cutlet is crispy and flavourful and all the ingredients come together nicely - this is one hearty lunchbox! I
