Didn’t take me too long to decided that I wanted some Nasi Lemak. Picked Selera Rasa Nasi Lemak over the other Nasi Lemak Store since my photowalk Kaki vouched that Selera Rasa Nasi Lemak has better Nasi Lemak. Well, then again, if the Prime Minister of Singapore can arrange for their Nasi Lemak to be served to Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo when he made a state visit to Singapore - and if the Sultan of Brunei have this Nasi Lemak for breakfast each time he visits Singapore - I’m sure it has some standard, right...?

Ordered the “Full House” that came with rice, chicken wing, otah, fried egg, ikan bilis, and the sambal chilli. Something different about this Nasi Lemak - they use Basmati Rice instead of Thai Rice - it had a light texture, super fragrant and it tasted so well with the sambal chilli that was slightly on the sweeter side. The chicken wing was pretty good too - perfectly crispy and well-marinated with turmeric and spices that made it so flavourful that you wished you had ordered two - or even three wings instead. As for the otah- it was alright.

Was it that good...? I think so. But you do have to take my word for it - if you’ve never tried it before - just head down to Adam Road Food Centre and join the loooooong queue at the store and give it a try yourself...!! 😊

Managed to try every single dishes they have on the menu - cos each portion was really small. The server told us it’s “tasting portion” - and she was right. Even the Greek Yoghurt, Granola and Pineapple came in a tiny short glass.

While the food was all great - except for the America breakfast - cos it was just normal - the dish that stood out for me was this - called the “Egg in Hell”... it’s basically Shakshuka - poached eggs in hearty, spiced tomato and pepper sauce served in a skillet and a toast bread. Wished they gave more bread though - so that I can mop clean the sauce and all - and maybe a runnier egg. Having said that - it was thoroughly satisfying and yummy...especially when eaten hot...!!

Decided to give YaKun’s Satay Chicken Cutlet with rice a try. Well, from the looks of it - this meal doesn’t require someone with much culinary skill to put it together. It was OK - nothing to shout about - at least the chicken cutlet was tender and moist since they used chicken thigh for it - and what can go wrong when their fried chicken cutlet on skewers were drenched in Satay gravy....?

So, will I have this again? Errr...I don’t think so - unless I have absolutely nothing better to eat...!!

Ordered the Coconut Cheesecake - apparently one of their top seller - and an Iced Flat White - a much needed “energy shot”. The cheese cake was smooth, lightly firm and covered with grated coconut and topped with droplets of what tasted like mango purée - all these sitting on top of a perfect buttery biscuit base.

My friend and I were trying to figure out it’s taste - almost familiar just couldn’t put a finger to it. Kueh Bangkit!! That was what it tasted like. So if you love Kueh Bangkit - this Chinese New Year light and crumbly coconut cookie - you’d love this. Well, I certainly enjoyed this not-overly-sweet tart. No wonder this Coconut Cheesecake is one of their top seller...!!

Decided to lunch there after reading on The Straits Times how it took 7 years for the famous Ramen Chain to come to Singapore.

Ordered the Yuzu Shio Ramen since we were told that that is the best seller. The bowl of ramen came with a sliced for grilled pork, half a seasoned ajitama egg, bamboo shoots, mizuna leaves and seaweed. The ramen was soft - which I felt was a little overdone - and the soup broth was light, delicate with a Citrusy Yuzu taste. It tasted refreshing at the start but after a while - the citrusy taste really got to me - and I couldn’t even finish the broth. I love Yuzu but maybe not how it’s done here. So, if you are like me - who enjoys those rich, thick, almost-milky-with-so-much-fat tonkotsu broth - this may need some getting used to. Would I come back again - perhaps - but I will probably try something else - maybe something without Yuzu in it.

Finally got to eat this at the Chong Pang Market & Food Centre outlet.

What do I like about this outlet...? Firstly, they don’t have long queue. Secondly, I can ask for a refill of their yummy broth. Thirdly, they now add small chunks of minced meat over the noodle - never had this at the other outlets before... and finally, I didn’t have to pay extra for their homemade Chili sauce - I remember been asked to pay $0.30 when I wanted more of it... and what I like best about it is - the lady at the store is extremely friendly.

Anyway, you wanna know how I have my bowl of Bai Nian Niang Dou Fu? First, I finish all the Bee Hoon (Rice Vermicelli) and half of their broth - go get a refill of it - and then chow down those Niang Dou Fu - one piece at a time - keeping the prawn ball to the last...! Oh dear - writing this is making me wanting a bowl now...!!🤤😩

Didn’t know what to expect since I’ve not even heard of Starker until now. Well, a quick browse at the menu - and “Laksa Seafood Pasta” caught my eyes - who doesn’t like Laksa right?

Anyway, the Laksa Seafood Pasta came with Shrimps, mussels, and scallops soaked in that rich and fragrant coconutty laksa gravy - with a sprinkle of finely chopped laksa leaves for that added flavour!

Personally, I would have preferred the noodles to be a little more al dente - but with the freshness of the seafood - particularly the shrimps - which was firm, fresh tasting and crunchy - and that delightful laksa gravy- I must admit that the dish was pretty good.
.
But what was disappointing was - though the place wasn’t even crowded at all - it did take them quite a while before we were served with our meals. In any case - now that I’ve heard of Starker - I think I’m going to come back for their 🍻. All I need now is someone to invite me there...and I’m available on most weeknights...!! 😊

Sous Vide Truffled Eggs with Toast - Sous-Vide eggs bathed with Dashi stock and a spray of truffle oil before garnishing it with Sakura Ebi, Caviar and scallions... and served with herb-garlic butter multigrain toast with crusty sides - I didn’t quite appreciate it the first time I had it - but this is beginning to grow on me...!

I have been 29 years old for SOOO many years - decided to turn 30 this year since I can’t possibly remain 29 forever. Anyway, had din-din at the Platypus Kitchen - picked by my wife and daughter.

I have been craving for a steak for a past few days - so choosing what to eat was a no brainer - ordered the Bugis' Butcher's Platter". Shared this with my son since this platter was designed to be shared.

The platter came with 2 cuts of meat - the Chophouse ribeye and a Pork Tomahawk steak. The ribeye was done medium - and it was divinely succulent and soft - and the pork chop - it was tender and moist - simply yummy. The platter came with 3 sides - Mesclun Salad, Bacon and Cheddar Mash, Panzanella Salad, Confit grape Tomatoes...and 3 delicious sauces - Hot Apple Chutney, Honey Truffle Soy and Burnt Lemon. Enjoyed it so much - and if I do come again - and I think I would - I will probably have this platter again - but I ain’t sharing with anyone!!

Anyway, it was definitely a happy birthday to me - thanks to my wife’s and daughter’s for their excellent choice!

Ordered the Teriyaki Chicken Sandwich. “Does it come with fries...?”, I asked. “Yes, just a small portion and a small portion of salad by the side” came the reply. Well, if you ask me - that was a pretty big portion, don’t you think?

Anyway, couldn’t really get the Teriyaki taste - but there was something sweet mixed with the shredded chicken - and it wasn’t mayo. My wife - who also ordered one for herself - thinks it could be Miso. Whatever it was - it made the sandwich really good - especially when the bread was also well toasted - gave that crunch with every bite. And though Watanabe wasn’t our first, second... or even third choice - I was kinda pleased we ended having dinner there.

After having this Malaysian dish - Kelantan to be exact - 2 pieces of chicken has been my usual whenever I’m lunching at “Yes! Nasi Kukus”.

Irresistible well-marinated deep fried chicken thigh - crispy on the outside and so very moist on the inside. The rice set also came with a choice of brown rice or steam white rice - I chose the latter - half of a hard-boiled egg, achar and some sambal belachan. The chicken thigh was sooo good - I’m beginning to wonder if I need any of the other stuff in the set...! 🤔
